Tuesday
We started with classes, the first being English expressions. There was myself and 2 other girls who were traveling with me. The teacher got the students to make questions for us in english. Most were generic things about what we like but there were a three that were a bit weird.
They were mainly asked by boys but we got a laugh out of them. One was if we had boyfriends and the others were what kind of men do we like and who out of the boys in the class did we like. We answered the boyfriend one, all three of us said no. Myself and one of the other girls didn't answer the other 2 except my friend who answered BTS because she is a big K-pop fan.
Afterwards we had a group lesson where we went over hiragana. We learnt how to write our names in Japanese hiragana (It says Ashurin)
We also got given a book which we got to decorate with stickers.
The top writing said Nihongo, meaning Japanese and then my name is below it.
We also did origami, we made cranes but one of the teachers messed up the instructions and mine doesn't look like a crane at all XD.
I already knew how to make a box so I made one.
After that we had a welcoming ceremony with the whole school. They had people speak in English for us, introducing the school and such. Then we had to go up and introduce ourselves to the school. We also sang 2 New Zealand songs for the school and I was really nervous. It was the first time I was singing in front of people with only two others with me. But it all went well. They then brought out their basketball team who performed a haka for us. If you don't know what a haka is, it's a New Zealand kind of war dance. Our rugby team, the All Blacks, does one before each game they play.
After that we played basketball with the basketball club. It was fun at the beginning but it really bothered my friend and I with how we were being treated. I know they were only trying to be nice but it was too much and patronizing. Especially since I play basketball and they weren't playing seriously. But let me reiterate that I understand they were only trying to be nice.
