We started the day by going to an earth sciences class. I got to sit next to my friend so it was fine and the teacher used Google translate so we would understand what was happening. We were doing an experiment where you make clouds in a plastic bottle with a small amount of alcohol in it. But for it to work, pressure was needed, but they didn't have the necessary equipment so we couldn't do it.
After that we had biology and the teacher got us to teach the students New Zealand manners and things like that. The girls I sat with were really nice and loved learning about New Zealand, especially slang.
After that we had a shodo class. Shodo is Japanese calligraphy. Here we made new years card for 2020, the year of the rat.
The first one was for my host student, Chikage and the second was for my family in NZ.
After that we had to go to the gym since they were holding a sports festival. It was only short and lasted two periods. They played soccer and volleyball, there also being the option to play board games instead.
I joined one of the soccer teams and we came second.
Once that was over, they prepared for our good bye ceremony. They made a big deal of us leaving and we were given each a certificate and page with photos of us all on them.
Then they played a video with a bunch of photos of us. Had past problems come up with me hating looking at myself in the video. It really shook me up but I managed to still say my thank yous when we had to speak in front of the school.
But the others were really upset about leaving, one crying while we were in front of the school. Then we left the gym where the ceremony was and everyone was crying. I was upset that we were leaving as well but my crying was for a different reason.
We got the chance to calm down before we went to a small party some of the students had thrown for us. There was food and we played games with all of the students. It was a lot of fun. I was still a little shocked from earlier but I felt a lot better.
That night my host mother took a Yukata out and let me try it on, it was very beautiful.
