Chapter 47
Sitting sideways upon the saddle with Alexios’ strong chest cushioning her shoulder and head as she leant against him. Her eyelids lowered as she took in the final moments of peace she could have before the onslaught of Athens overwhelmed her very being. They had spent the last week on the road, going at a slower pace than many of the men wanted, but Alexios had kept them on a tight leash, and slowed them down. She knew it was for her. For her to get her mind around the fact she was going back to the one place she wished she would never see again.
She had woken so sweetly only a few days before. Forgetting completely she was on the road to the city where her worst living nightmare resided. Only she had awoken to Alexios having wrapped himself around her, making her feel as if she was safe and protected from all that could harm her. It was only as she had watched the fluttering of the tent fabric before her eyes, as it was lit from outside. The bright light was ethereal to look upon, only the idyllic moment was shattered as she realised why she was witnessing such a beautiful sight. Because of the place she was heading.
Alexios had known her trepidation, had been awoken shortly after her, distracting her thoughts with sweet, gentle nips and kisses from her shoulder up her neck, to gently nibble on the lobe of her ear. A small moan escaping her the only sound she could make at that very moment. He had taken the time to soothe her worried and shattered nerves. Whispering words of utter nonsense in her ear, even as she tried to understand them he moved on to gentle loving words that no warrior should have had the capability of making, and yet which made Alexios a male set apart from the rest.
He saw something within her something she could not see, and in doing so, she was seeing parts of him she was sure even Iason had never before seen. At times she was sure she could see a small boy within him trying to break free in times of playfulness. But at those times she would shake her head and try and think of something else which would cause such a look in his eyes. Nothing ever came to mind, for it was most definitely the mischief of a young child she saw, it just would not be accepted by her mind at the moment. The words he spoke however, were very much that of a male who wanted his female to know what was stirring in his mind…and eventually in his body.
She had lost all ability to think that morn as he had shown her bliss which had made her forget just exactly who was on the other side of the thin tent, and who had shot knowing looks in their direction as they had eventually excited from their intimate abode. She had felt her face flame with the covert glances, and Alexios had not helped the situation by wrapping his arm around her and pulling her close to his side. His face an open book as he grinned widely. They had been on the road again only moments later, but the embarrassment had lasted for hours afterwards, and Alexios had not loosened his grip the entire time.
