Zak drummed his fingers on the arm of the waiting room chair. Y/n had gone into surgery an hour ago. They were repairing her leg, which had been horrifically mangled in the crash.

He had found her in his apartment's elevator when trying to go down to see the accident more clearly. 911 was called immediately and they rushed to the scene, paramedics lifting her into the ambulance. All he could do was watch in shock as the love of his life got further and further away.

He called an Uber to the hospital, scared to drive and get in a wreck just like Y/n.

Zak had already decided to pay for the entirety of her bills from this experience. She had been injured while trying to go home from visiting him, so he felt it needed to be done.

A tall blonde woman approached Zak's seat, carrying a tray of water cups.

"Would you like some water sir?" she asked politely.

Zak nodded in response and took one off the tray. "Thank you."

He chugged it quickly, not having realized how dry his throat was. He crushed the cup in his fist, just for something to do.

Zak's phone buzzed.

It was Darryl.

Hey Skep, is she out yet? - Bad 6:37

no - Skeppy 6:37

why is it taking so long - Skeppy 6:38

It's only been an hour. They told you it would take 2! I'm sure everything is just fine. - Bad 6:39

i hope so - Skeppy 6:39

He shoved his hand back into his pocket and sighed. Another hour of waiting. So much waiting.

She has to be okay. They're doctors! They know what they're doing. They train for years to have this job. They've got her. Right? Yeah. Of course. Totally. Definitely. One hundred percent.

Skeppy looked around at the other people in the room, wondering if they were in similar situations.

There was a middle aged woman on the phone, talking quietly. Her tone sounded anxious despite the volume of the phone call.

A few seats away from her was an older man, reading a magazine. He looked unsettlingly relaxed. Like he had been here many times before.

The final person sat at the very edge of the room. He was about Zak's age, wearing a florescent green hoodie that stood out against the paper white walls of the hospital. Skeppy could only see his back, but he looked to be asleep, head tilted all the way to one side.

Maybe trying to rest is a good idea.

Zak shut his eyes tightly, the room fading as a dark, black sheet enveloped him in a much needed sleep.

POV CHANGE

Dream's phone vibrated, causing him to wake up.

Just got on break, meet ya in the usual place! - Stupid sis 😎 7:22

Okay but hurry up I'm hungry - Dream 7:23

He sat up in his chair of the hospital waiting room and glanced at the clock.

Gosh why does she always take so long! I'm glad I didn't become a doctor. Youtube life is a lot easier. Thank you Uber Eats.

Dream glanced around, bored. When his sister says she's coming, that usually means another ten minutes. Another ten minutes without dinner!

His stream of thoughts halted abruptly. A familiar face sat just a few chairs away...

"Zak? What are you doing here?"

The raven haired boy jumped awake. "Holy shit dude you scared the crap out of me! Wait, talk again?"

"Hi Zak," Dream replied, grinning. "Nice to meet ya!"

"Wow I did not think that is what you looked like. Bruh moment." Skeppy's smile faded.

"Well, this is me! Anyways what are you in for?" Dream's cheery expression clearly did not grasp the gravity of the situation.

"My girlfriend...she was in a car accident. I'm waiting for her to get out of surgery any time now."

Dream's face darkened. "Oh. I'm so sorry. I can wait here with you if you want. My sister and I were just gonna go grab dinner before she has to go back to work. She's a doctor here..." His sentence trailed off, clearly feeling awkward.

"Nah it's okay, I'm good. You're probably hungry." Zak ran his fingers through is hair and looked away.

"You know what, I'll pick you up something. What you in the mood for? It's on me."

"Honestly Dream, I'm not hungry."

Dreams sister walked around the corner and smiled at her brother. "Ready to go loser?"

He nodded, then looked back to Zak.

"Okay, whatever you say. I'm going to eat but I'm definitely coming back to check on you after. No buts. And Bad would kill me if I didn't, you know that."

Zak smiled sheepishly. "Yeah, sounds like him."

Dream waved goodbye at Zak and followed his sister through the sliding glass doors.

Zak sighed.

I hope everything is okay with y/n. She's the best thing I've got.
