Jeremy's POV
"Have you finished packing?" My mom asked me as I zipped the last of my many suitcases.
"Yes, mom." I said quickly.
"I thought you were warming yourself up to Darrel but ever since the wedding, you seem off? What's wrong Jeremy?" She asked as she stepped into my room.
I never told her what Darrel said to me. I have never seen her this happy before, I wasn't going to ruin that for her.
"I'm fine, I'm just going to miss Chicago, and Angelo, and of course you." I said and she smiled kindly. "Are you ready for your honeymoon?" I asked.
They postponed the honeymoon after I left, because my mom wanted to take me to the airport. I knew she was struggling but she never let it show. That was the definition of my mother.
"I'm very ready. I will still call you everyday."
"Mom that's not necessary, I don't need you to do that."
"I know you don't, but I do." She said and pulled me into a hug.
I heard her sniffle by my ear as if she was about to cry. I just hugged her tighter, she had been an emotional mess all morning.
We have had our fights, and awful words thrown at each other but in the end I loved her and she loved me. That was all I ever wanted when I was in foster care and I still take it for granted.
"Darrel's not coming to the airport, right?"
"No sweetheart he's not. I told him that it was something I needed to do alone and he agreed." She said, and brushed my hair out of my eyes.
She left my room and closed the door. I looked at my floor and at my multiple suitcases. I took a deep breath and tried not to cry. I was excited for college and this new opportunity but I wasn't ready to leave it all behind.
I contemplated taking another year off but Angelo insisted that I didn't. I couldn't keep putting off my future, I knew that but I still wanted to try.
I wasn't leaving till 8:00pm but I was still slightly dreading it. There is a part of it that is terrifying, leaving everything you knew behind just to follow a dream you didn't even know if it would work out.
I sat on my floor and just exhaled until my phone rang.
"Hey, Angelo." I said.
"Hi, come outside."
"Um why?" I asked.
"Because I want you to," he said in a playful tone.
"But it's cold." I whined.
"You're adorable, just come downstairs." He said and hung up.
"Okay." I said to the dead line, and left my bedroom.
My mom and Darrell were to busy cooking to realize I walked out the door. I'm glad because the last thing I want to do is have to answer questions.
I walked outside where Angelo, Adam, Emerald, Ava, and Madeline were waiting.
"What are you all doing here?" I said with a laugh.
"We wanted to see you before you left. We wanted to spend time with you. Especially since all of us except for Angelo isn't going to the airport with you." Adam answered.
"Thanks to all of you." I said as I hugged Adam.
We started walking down the sidewalk laughing and talking. Angelo held my hand as we walked, it felt longing and slightly desperate.
