Onyx and Citrine (Steven Universe au)

The waiting room

Citrine's POV

      I started to fret about my meeting with Blue Diamond. What do you say or do to show respect? Would I be shattered because of my appearance? The thoughts just kept racing. It didn't help that I was being trained for the majority of the days, forced to spar with Onyx and run continuously till I tired. And what made it worse? Onyx was like a robot, silent and bland. How come the only other person who's male has to be so...emotionless!

      At least the amethysts-or the "Famethysts" as they call themselves-helped me feel better. They had let me vent out my frustrations and cheer me up afterward. But now the famethysts couldn't help me through this.

     It started with the doors opening to a flying gem with beautiful water wings and a cute little outfit. She looked around the room and cleared her throat.

      "I am looking for a Citrine. Is she here?" She asked in a high pitched voice.

      I looked back at my new friends and the Jasper with a gem on her left eye gave me a nod. I took it as a silent good luck and walked up to the gem. "Hi, I'm here. Oh, and I prefer 'he' if you don't mind."

"Hm, I do mind. Follow me," She said with enough sass to backhand me verbally. Without making sure I was following she flew off calling out, "Are you coming?"

I stood there surprised, gave my companions a nod to her. "She's...something else." And with that I jogged after her.

It took a second to catch up, and it slightly pleased me to see her flinch when I appeared right next to her. We had a rather uneventful walk, she mostly talked about how high ranked she was. Despite being annoyed I was still curious about her and asked questions about her gem and abilities. That's how I found out she was an Aquamarine!

After a few minutes we reached a giant door where Onyx stood, straight and soldier-like. The Aquamarine bid me farewell as she flew off.

We both stood there awkwardly, him calm and poised while I fidgeted and shifted from leg to leg. Finally I couldn't bare the silence anymore and tried what felt like my 15th time at a conversation.

"So, is Blue Diamond in there?" I ventured, hoping he wouldn't ignore me like he did sometimes.

"Yes, Holly Blue Agate is in there as well. She said that our diamond would like to see us one by one. Who will go first I don't know," He said matter of factly, not even looking at me.

"Is she nice?" I asked, feeling slightly more confident since he actually answered me for once.

"Nice?" He asked in a questioning tone, then went back to being a robot. "Ah, that is an emotion term, correct?"

"Yeah, why? You don't know emotions?"

"They are useless, but my Pearl has informed me that some can help infiltrate an enemy base. Feigning what you call "nice" and "nervous" can lead to the destruction of an entire unit."

I stood there in stunned silence, blinking softly in surprise. He stood still and looked away from him, staring blankly at the door.

Good talk, I thought quietly as I waited impatiently for our meeting. Minutes past, but finally the door opened and a lithe woman, her eyes covered by her short blue hair and an oval blue-tinted white gem in the middle of her chest.

"Blue Diamond has requested your presence Citrine," she said softly as she bowed low. "Yellow Diamond has requested your presence as well Onyx."

We both flinched as we heard the last sentence. Another Diamond was here, and it was the scary one!

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you two," she said quietly, not moving from her bow.

Onyx straightened up, gave me a quick look, then walked inside, ignoring the gem as if she wasn't even there. I felt a small fire burn within me as I followed him in, thanking the gem for her help.

Walking in, I saw two extremely tall women completely different from each other except for the gem on their sternums. One was light blue with sea-foam colored hair and a dark dress. She had big beautiful eyes with diamonds in her pupils that had bags underneath them. The other had spiky yellow hair and a military outfit that radiated authority. Her diamond eyes as intense as herself. Right underneath them (around their feet) was Holly blue, standing as straight as Onyx.

"My Diamonds," She started, making her way to us. "I give you our newest gems! Citrine and Onyx!"
