Kino's Point of View (POV)

I stood in front of the high school, Fusha High. Two years ago, I had to enter this school. The uniform felt strange to me because I usually wore three-quarter jeans but the uniform was a straight, Dacron trousers that reached down to just above my sneakers, all of which are black. Paired with short, plain socks and a simple black belt, it felt like I was going for a job interview. Tucked roughly in my trousers was a white long-sleeved shirt and a classic black jacket that bore the school's crest covered it. The crest comprised a crystal wand surrounded by a white aura that represented the element of the first principal.

The girls that passed me by the entrance wore circle skirts in black that reach down to just above their calves. They wore white thigh-high socks and black sneakers. Like the boys, they wore white long-sleeved shirts that loosely hung over their skirts and covered with the same jacket.

"Wow, the girl's uniform is so much better than the boys!" I thought to myself.

The first period was just about to begin as I walked into the school, then made my way to my new homeroom. In a quick pace, a girl with blonde, wavy hair passed in front of me. She had glinting blue eyes and small lips. She was fair skinned and looked like my best friend, Rishi Charles.

I waited outside for the homeroom teacher to call my name to enter the room. About three minutes after the bell rang she called for me. I walked calmly into the classroom and started to introduce myself. I lifted my head and stared at the class with my cold red eyes.

"My name is Kino Taiyo," I started getting stares and gasps by a few of the students.

"I was supposed to start High School here as a Freshman, but I moved away for two years with my brother," I continued trying to forget the memories of the past.

"That's all, thank you," I ended, and the teacher assigned me to the seat to the far-left middle area.

After I sat, I noticed about three students who were staring at me but I did not pay much attention to them, it could have been some of my old friends. However, I cared neither way since I left everyone from this town in my past.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This school had five periods of classes with two breaks. Today was the homeroom followed by element summoning practice. Our homeroom teacher was also our element summoning coach so when the bell rang, we immediately went to change in our elemental clothing. It was a polyester trouser that reaches down to just above my sneakers and a white t-shirt hanging over the trouser. I usually wore an outfit similar to this when I trained with my brother. We then lined up in the magic arena located outside the school. The teacher asked me to introduce my element to everyone as we were all classmates. But when I said I had not taken the pill yet because of not attending the first two years in high school, I got blank stares and a few laughs. She told me that tomorrow I would need to take the pill along with the Freshmen and I nodded. After that, she told the top five elemental students to introduce themselves.

Fifth place was Sid Reynolds. He had chestnut, shaggy hair tied in a ponytail that revealed a menacing face. He had small green eyes with vampire-like teeth. His fair skin complimented his tall and slim figure. He possessed the Wind element and did a spell that slit a mini boulder in half. The other students applauded him, but to me it was nothing special.

The fourth place was Audra Milla. She had white, straight hair slightly covering her round, gloomy face. She had gentle gray eyes and was short. She also had the Wind element similar to Sid, but she can use combinations better. She mixed her Wind Element with a bit of the Fire Element and made a mini fire tornado. The way spells work here differ from the fairytale stories. If a Wind Elemental tries to create a fireball, it will be harder to learn and come out much weaker compared to if a Fire Elemental tried to cast it. Although a little weak, she received applauds from all her classmates. I almost started laughing at that parlor trick, but I had to control myself.

In the third was one of my old friends, Triston Shizu. He had ginger, frizzy hair hanging over a strong, fixated face. He had lidded hazel eyes and for his age he was muscular and well built. He had a birthmark stretching from the left side of his forehead to the central area of his forehead. His golden bronze complexion fit perfectly with his body structure and his height. Although he had the Earth element, he ranked third for his excellent control when performing his magic. He created a wall made of pure solid material from the earth going about 5 meters high. His magic type didn't fit his personality from before at all, but I respected the fact that he worked hard. There was a big difference from fourth place to third place.

The second was the girl from earlier, Rishi Charles. She had the Water Element and a Wind Element. Having over one element is possible but considered rare. She took out a small cylinder tube with water and tapped it immediately, turning it green. She then poured it into the soil and the weeds withered and died in a matter of seconds. Everyone applauded for her and girls looked at her with admiration while the boys looked like they wanted to date her. That's Rishi for you, always one stepping the competition. It would be hard for the first place to top that.

Last was a boy named Hageshi Urata. He had red, short hair neatly coiffured to reveal a long, gloomy face. He had clear gray eyes and had a body structure with not too much muscle. He had both the Fire element and the Moon Element. He easily creates a massive Illusion of a fire-like creature and it shoots out a fireball. The boys groaned in jealousy whilst the girls looked at him in awe and admiration. He seems like the popular type that could get anyone he wants. I was beyond surprised by the move he used, the only person I was ever use that trick before was my brother and he said it took him two years to learn it.

The teacher then stated that the top four students will have a one versus one against each other, the winner of each match then going against the other. Audra would go against Rishi and Triston against Hageshi.

"I would award the winner a free pass for the upcoming exams." She said to entire clause of students.

The other students groaned in jealousy for not being able to participate, but I was just really bored. All I wanted to do was awaken my element, not watch a bunch of people show off their own. I looked at both Triston and Rishi and they returned my stare, as if it were a challenge. It piqued my interest.

'Maybe coming back to this school won't be a total bore' I said to my self.

Now, let's see who's going to win that free pass and gain my respect.
