The rest of the walk home was quiet. I was expecting that Matthew would have said something due to his outgoing style, but he respected my space. I liked that.

"Well, here we are," I said at last.

"I'm going to ask you something before I jump to conclusions. Do you want to start the game now? Or do you want to be alone and do some homework or something? I don't mind," he smiled.

"Actually," I thought about it. "Can you help me with some of my homework?" Matthew's face lit up, and agreed. I unlocked the door and we both went inside. "Do you remember where the living room is?" I asked nonchalantly.

"I was here just yesterday silly! Even if I didn't have a good memory I think I would be able to remember that much."

I laughed. We sat down on the couch and grabbed my homework from World's History class.

"I hate history. It's definitely my least favorite subject," I said.

"It's not that bad. If anything it's the math classes you have to worry about!"

"No way! Math is my favorite! It comes much easier to me than all the rest."

"Hm, then maybe you're going to have to help with my Trigonometry."

After a half hour or so of homework, we were ready to rematch.

"Okay mister memory," I teased. "Go ahead and find my room. I'll grab us some snacks and drinks then meet you up there."

I turned towards the kitchen to fulfill my word. I grabbed some carrots (mmm, carrots) and two sodas. What a mix.

"Hope you like Pepsi!" I exclaimed.

"Sure do!" Matthew opened his can. "Um, carrots?"

"Oops, you don't like carrots, do you?"

"Haha no, I like carrots. It was just super random. You know what? I forgot to tell you what my idea was. Trust me it wasn't the homework!"

"What is it?"

"20 questions. I want to get to know more about you. What do you say?"

I was taking a drink when he said that. I started coughing at the unexpected reply I got.

"Whoa, calm down. Haha maybe another day then," Matthew rubbed my back and grabbed a controller.

"Ha! If only you knew about the secret room!" I yelled.

"But who was the one who got the extra fire range on their gun?"

"Oh, shush!" I laughed. "Hey! Unfair!"

"No no, you just weren't paying attention!"

I leaped from my beanbag to standing in front of Matthew, blocking his sight. "Ha, it seems like someone is at a disadvantage!"

"Not for long!" Matthew grabbed me and threw me down on my bed, letting my controller fly right out of my hands. "That's what you get for cheating!" He stuck out his tongue.

We continued on like that for a good hour, maybe a little more. I actually found out what time it was when Mom got home with Xavier.

"Kori, who's here?" my mom called up.

"Shoot, pause the game Matthew!"

"Nah, I like where I'm at!"

"Jerk!" I got my controller from across the room and paused it myself. I laughed. "You're coming with me downstairs so I can keep an eye on you!"

"Fine."

We both went downstairs.

"Matthew! Matthew!" my brother ran up and gave him a hug. "Why are you here?"

My mom looked at me with an evil look in her eyes.

No Mom, there's nothing going on between us. It was a casual rematch. I wanted to speak up, but my voice just couldn't come out.

"How you been, sweetie?" Mom said, smiling.

Oh no, why this? Why now? Why me?

"Good, thanks." Matthew replied.

My mom then said, "Why don't you stay for dinner? I bet your parents wont mind."

Mom!
