"Once upon a time, there was a young, beautiful princess named Cinderella. In the beginning, she was very happy. She had a mommy and a daddy that loved her so much, and they spoiled her like crazy. Then one day, her daddy went off to help fight a war between his people and his archnemisis, Vladimir..."
"What's a war?" I asked her, curiously as I got out of my bed and climbed on her lap, with her helping me to sit up. Susan looked as if she was trying to find a good way to explain what exactly a war was to a four year old.
"A war is when you have two sides of people who are fighting each other for what they believe is right." She told me slowly, making sure to word her response correctly.
"Do people die?" I asked a bit worried.
"Unfortunately they do, sweetheart." Susan replied, a bit saddened.
"Ohh..." I said. "Continue!!" I pleaded. She laughed softly, and began to continue the story.
"However, Cinderella's daddy never came back home after the war ended. Cinderella and her mommy, and all of the kingdom were devastated and heartbroken. Her mommy had to take over and take care of everyone..."
Listening to this story, I was very intrigued by it. It seemed sad now, but I knew that something was going to happen to make it all better in the end. I knew this because all stories ended in a happy ever after, when the princess always find her prince charming.
"As the years went by, Queen Isabelle, Cinderella's mommy, had remarried, with a man by the name of Sir King Phillipe the III. He had two daughters with him, making them Cinderella's step sisters. His girls were everything to him. Soon Queen Isabelle had grown to adore the girls just as much as she adored her own, if not more.
"Even more years went by, and Cinderella was now thirteen years old. Her step father had become very ill, so it had been Queen Isabelle to take over the family once again. She was not happy with this, and began to take out all her frustration out on poor Cinderella, telling her mean things, making her do crazy chores, even though there were maids and servants to do such tasks."
"What about the sisters?" I asked her in a sleepy voice.
"Well you see, Cinderella's mom treated them like princesses, having Cinderella work for them as well as her own mother. She didn't understand why any of this was happening, especially to her, she hadn't done anything wrong. She was to clean everywhere and anything her mother told her, waiting on her stepsisters and her mother. She wasn't allowed to go out if she wasn't with them, meaning she couldn't go explore the outside world around her.
"This went on for about five years, when something changed." She said dramatically. I looked up at her wide-eyed. This was when it would finally become good.
"It was the night of the ball, and everyone was either getting ready or helping others to get ready, wanting everyone and everything to be perfect and everyone to be looking their best. Well, everyone but Cinderella that is."
"She didn't go?" You could hear the sadness in my voice as I asked her.
"No baby, she didn't get to go." Susan told me.
"Why not?"
"Because her mommy wouldn't let her go. There really wasn't a reason for it." I just nodded and let her continue.
"Once everyone else had left, Cinderella took this chance to pack her things and leave to freedom. She packed a bag full of her most precious things, some clothes, and some food to last her through her journey, since she had no clue when it would be until she would reach her destination..."
"Where was she going?"
"That's the thing, she didn't know where she would go. She just kept walking until she got into town, where she was looking around for any hotels that were still open at that time of night. After a while had passed of searching, she finally found a place to stay for the night. She went inside, paid for a room, and then went to sleep in her room.
"The next morning, Cinderella went to walk around town to explore this unknown place. Everything she saw amazed her. She walked for what seemed like hours when she had accidentally bumped into someone, causing both of them to fall down."
"No one got hurt though, right?"
"No darling, no one got hurt." She said smiling while giving me a little squeeze.
"Okay, good!" I say, smiling.
"Anyways, once Cinderella and this mystery man had both recovered, they looked at each other, and were both.. oh what's the word I'm looking for.. oh right, they were both starstruck. They stared at each other for what seemed like forever, but was really only a few seconds, when the kind gentleman came back to reality and was getting nervous. He stood up and offered his hand to Cinderella, wanting to help her up as well. She took his hand, a little nervous, and stood up, looking right at him.
(A/N* These next few lines are between the character Cinderella and the "mystery man". I'll let you know when it goes back to reality. Sorry if any of this confuses you.*)
"I'm so sorry. Are you okay?" He had asked her.
"Yes, I'm quite alright. Are you hurt at all?" She asked almost panicky.
"Yes, I'm just fine." He said, chuckling a bit. "My name is Aaron."
"I'm..." Cinderella was wondering if she should give her name away, scared that he might recognize her and make her return to her home. She decided to go with something simple, but different.
"I'm Ella." She said with a small smile.
"Ella... I can remember that." Cinderella, or Ella, blushed a bit at that.
"Well it's very nice to meet you Ella."
"Likewise to you... Aaron." She replied, getting familiarized with his name, smiling as she did so.
"Well, I must be going. Will I ever see you again?"
"I'd like for that to happen." Aaron smiled as she said that.
"Alright, well same place tomorrow?"
"I'll be right here."
They both smiled as he began to walk away. He turned back and waved at her before continuing on with his day. She waved back, giggling a little to herself, not believing what just happened. She had a grin on her face the whole day as she continued her adventure, in hopes to see him again.
A few weeks had passed, and Aaron and Ella couldn't be happier with each other. One day Aaron had decided to propose to Ella, in the same place they had met. She, of course, had said yes, and the two happy couple had lived happily ever after.
The End."
(Story ended. Back to the actual story.)
I was getting really sleepy at the end of the story. Susan had gotten up, with me in her arms, and carried me to my bed, gently laying me down, tucking me in. She kissed the top of my head as I fell asleep. She then walked to the door, turning off the light and closing the door.
"Good night, princess."
