Y/N L/N had spent most of her life around the Curtis house.  Living next door meant that most holidays or events resulted in the two families becoming intertwined.  Y/N and her parents always admired Mr and Mrs Curtis for their kind nature, giving personalities and attitude towards life.  Y/N in particular found herself in awe of Mr and Mrs Curtis as parents.  So much so, she would often find herself jealous of the three Curtis children.  Jealous of how well they got along, of how picture perfect their little family seemed.

It wasn't that she grew up with awful parents.  They weren't abusive or overprotective, she just often found herself struggling to be noticed.  Mr and Mrs Y/L/N both worked incredibly hard, often not making it home until it was long past dinner time.  This is how Y/N found herself around the Curtis household almost every night.  It was like a second home, with love radiating from the walls and a home cooked meal every night.

Y/N was happy.

She would sit at the dining table with Ponyboy (the youngest Curtis son) working through their homework, whilst Mrs Curtis would chop vegetables and prepare dinner around them.  Mr Curtis would be fixing various objects around the house, with his eldest son, Darry.  They would always be together.  Amongst the calm would come Sodapop, the middle Curtis sibling.  Sodapop was always busy, running, jumping, shouting.  The scene was perfect for everyone.  Y/N felt safe, loved, and truly wanted.

As the years went on and the children all grew up, Y/N spent a lot of time with the Curtis household.  She grew close to all 3 Curtis brothers, especially Soda.  They treated eachother like true siblings.  During this time, Y/N 's parents were becoming more stressed with work.  There had been concerns relating to money and their marriage was struggling.  As each L/N parent individually tried their best to save the family from any financial difficulty, they missed the bigger picture.  They slowly began forgetting their daughter, and eventually it was as if Y/N didn't exist.  She would go days and weeks without even speaking to her parents, opting to spend time at the Curtis's instead.
