Anyone fancy joining Team Katie instead of Team Peeta or Team Potter? It's free y'know (:
I sit at the waters edge of the lake, my feet splashing in the water. It's strangely quiet today, no Kai or the usual birds singing, they stopped when Lily died. Maybe a little sing song will cheer them up. Maybe.
I begin to sing, staring up at the tree's, my feet still in the water, my trousers getting a little wet at the edges. I really wish I could sing as well as Kai, she is amazing. Her voice is soft and sweet and full of emotion.
"I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said "I'll never let you go"
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said "Don't leave me here alone"
But all that's dead and gone and past tonight."
And that's when the birds start happily singing along, relieved to here a happy sound. They usually are hearing the wind and the water, that's it. Nothing else. Me and Kai are consistently sitting in silence at the waters edge.
"Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound
Don't you dare look out your window
Darling everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold on to this lullaby
Even when the music's gone
Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound,"
I hum the sound of the song where the instrumental part is meant to be and continue to sing when it's over
"Just close your eyes,"
You'll be alright
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound,"
The birds chirp happily and I listen for a while, but something grabs my attention. My head snaps in the direction of the forest. A dark figure lingers around the trees. I know it's Kai, I can just see her eyes, they twinkle bright.
I stumble to my feet and she turns, running of into the forest. Great, just what I wanted, Kai to be scared of me. I chase after her, occasionally bumping into trees, making her think she's got more time to escape, but she hasn't.
My arms reach for her wrists as I get closer and my hands clamp around her. "It's only me." I mutter, letting go of her hands. She turns around. "Had fun running off to the heart of the forest where you are not meant to go?"
