Age 16 - Summer

My eyes flutter open and I'm blinded by the sunlight, beaming down on the spot I had fell asleep on, deep in the forest. It takes a while for my eyes to get used to the light. My unsteady hands reach up to my eyes and rub them.

On my side, Kai is soundlessly sleeping, looking incredibly peaceful and twice as beautiful. Her dark hair is splayed over forest floor, her lips seem to be slightly turned up, as if she is smiling. Her skin has a slightly rosy colour to it, due to the sun.

I stumble to my feet and look around. Then I realise something glinting in Kai's hand, something silver; the colour burns my eyes as the sun reflects on it. Maybe some sort of weapon? I've never slept with Kai, so I wont know. But maybe it's just what she does, sleeping with something.

I comb the bark out of my tangled, frizzy hair with my fingers and slowly get to my feet. I bend down again, retreving my bow and arrow and walk around the trees. I look around myself, looking for some animal for food.

I sigh and go over to the river, staring at myself in the water. The hair slowly turns to a bronze colour and the eyes to a hazel colour. Laurie. A small smile appears on her face.

"I-I'm sorry about the last time we met. But lets move on..." The door appears again. I look back where Kai is and step through the door.

A sudden screaming of 'Happy Birthday To You' sounds in my ears. Laurie and Willow grab hold of me, hugging me tightly. Willow now resembles the looks of a 13 year old, the last time I saw her, she looked around 7.

"Hey Lila!"

"Chao."

My face splits into a grin as I look at the people resembled around me. I recognise the Master. His short, whispy grey hair was a bit different but his sapphire eyes hadn't changed. In his hands was a huge cake with icing flowers perched on top and a silk, dark green ribbon around it.

The lake, which last time I saw it, it was enchanted a lilac colour, was a neon orange. It's lilypads were a sky blue and the large flowers were a bright pink. The trees had blue and red leaves. The sight was amazing; the awesome thing was, Laurie remembered when my birthday was!

The Master hobbled up to me, a welcoming smile upon his old face. His outstretched arms showed me the beautiful cake.

"Happy birthday, my dearie." He grinned as I took the cake from his arms. "How old are you now? You look 15."

"One year out; I'm 16."

"Going of to Immortals High like Lorenna will-"

"It's Laurie, sir!" Laurie cut him of, telling him that she prefers the name Laurie. But we all have nicknames that everyone knows us as. Like I'm more known as Lila (the real name is Lucilla) and Lorenna is Laurie; Emelia is Em or Emmie and... wait, there isn't another kid in the family... at least I think so.

"Yes, I'm heading out in a few days time... Sir."

"Ahh... Manners, it seems to run through your family. Laurie is lovely, your manners are just the same."

I give a small nod and walk of, heading in Laurie's direction. "To the hut?" She says, taking the heavy cake out of my arms.

"Yes. I wanna try some of the cake. Who made it?"

"Oh..." Laurie considers whether she should tell me, then speaks up again. "It was some of the camp and me. It was really fun."

The cake is taken from Laurie's arms and set on the table in the middle of the huge wooden hut. A knife is handed to the red-headed man who took he cake from Laurie. He turns to look at me.

"D'ya want to help-"

The Master strides in. "Laurie, Lila, we need you both. This is a connection in between your parents. Lila, you may find this upsetting, yet it is rather interesting." He growls in his usual deep voice.

We immediately stand up and follow him. The lake is now a deep blue, like normal water is. The face of my father and a beautiful lady is there. Their voices are muffled until we get closer. My eyes start stinging with tears.

"I need you back, Mar! Oh please! I still love you! It was because of Lila! I need you! Emelia needs you! Oh please! Come on!" The girl pleads. I could not believe it; it was my mother. Did she even love Dad?

"Enya, please. You don't understand. Lila is dangerous now. She'd hurt you and I don't want that. You need to stay safe." His face looks slightly painful. "I'm really sorry."

Me and Laurie let out surprised gasps. Was I really dangerous? Does Dad even love Dad? I feel Laurie's arm grip onto my arms at a surprising strength.

"You can leave her there! I need you so bad!"

"She'll never forgive me."

I fall down on to my knees, Laurie falling with me as she was holding me. She let's go and I put my hands on my face, tears leaking from my eyes. Was it only me that caused mum to send us out?

"I need t-to get home." I say weakly, my voice wobbling. The door in the lake re-appears. I hug Laurie and walk through.

"Lila! Lila! What's up? Why are you crying?" Kai's worried voice fills my ears. I recount the painful truth I had just found out.

And now, Kai is always afraid of my father. And so am I. When I get the chance, I will so beat the day lights out of him.
