''Mom? I'm going out!'' I shouted to mom, who where still in the kitchen. ''Oh, feeling better? Where are you going?'' mom shouted happily back. ''Ehm, around the block'' I lied. I put my jacket and shoes on and ran out before mom asked any more questions. Billie Joe suddenly popped up next to me. ''Joining me?'' I joked. He smiled. It was sunny, and extremely hot. Billie Joe didn't look ‘’real’’ anymore. It was like, you could see through him. I could see that he looked very pale. Looked like he had just woken up, all the time. We walked silently together. I broke the silence, ''how do we convince her?'' I asked him. He thought for a second, ''well, just start of by being honest. If that doesn't work, then I'll try to help you'' he said while he was glancing over the houses we passed. ''That's reassuring'' I said doubtful. We laughed, then I noticed an old couple where walking behind us. The only thing they saw was me talking to myself, then laughing at my own joke... Perfect, that means one family who's not sending us a Christmas card to us this year.
We walked a few more minutes, and then we where there. This wasn't easy for Billie. I could see the pain in his eyes when he saw his own house. And he knew he would never be able to live there again. I said to him that he probably shouldn't see Adrienne now. Of course he refused, men.. or ghosts whatever. I walked slowly up to the door. The house was enormous. Really nice and cozy. I stood outside the door for a bit. ''Maybe I should wai-'' ''No'' he interrupted me. ''Now, or never'' he added. ''Is ‘never’ an option..?'' I tried. He laughed, and gave me his puppy eyes. Those Goddamn puppy eyes. I couldn't say no to that face. Fuck, fine. I rang the doorbell, and waited for an answer. ''No answer, better go-'' fuck, the door opened up. There stood a tired Adrienne. In a black dress, hair in a mess and pale face. You could see it in her eyes that she had been crying, her eye area was all bright pink. She missed him. ''Why hey there, can I help you?'' She said. She was so kind, I couldn't do it. Billie was standing right next to me. He was staring at his wife. His hand was approaching her hand. ''Is there something wrong, dear?'' She asked worried. Dear, I knew she was the kind of women who would call a total stranger dear.
''Sorry, it was nothing'' I said while staring at the ground. ''Well, okay have a nice day then!'' she said. I turned around, ''I couldn't do it Billie!'' I hissed at him a little to loud. ''Billie? Who are you talking to?'' She hadn't closed the door after me. Fuck, here it goes. I walked back up again and looked her in the eyes. I told her everything. The day Billie Joe came to me, the stuff I read online and, the hardest part, that he was standing right next to me right now. She had paid attention through out my crazy story. It looked like she was about to cry. Billie Joe couldn't take his eyes of her. He took his hand over her hair. She shook her head. Billie’s hand darted back. ''I.. don't know what to say, that is a very difficult story to believe. Y'know that?'' Y'know, she was also using his famous phrase. However, she thought I was crazy. My hope faded. ''Tell her that it is really me, I can prove it. Ask her to ask you anything'' Billie said without taking his eyes of her. So I did. ''Well, this is really not what I need now. I'm sorry, but I'm really tired and-'' she didn't finish. Billie held his hand around hers. I could see that Adrienne felt it, she got goose bumps all over her arm and she froze. ''Please, Adie you have got to believe me! One question!'' I begged. She was staring at her arm, then at me. ''Was that...'' I nodded. She broke down, now she was crying. Fuck. I suck at helping people when they cry.
Billie Joe was sitting opposite of her. Smiling, it actually looked like he was crying too. It was terrible to watch, like the musical ''Ghost'' I broke into a cry too. ''I'm sorry, honey. I should believe you, but it's not easy y'know? I need him and I miss him so much. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do now. And I just remember what Billie said. 'If Adrienne dies, I'll kill myself to be with her' And, I can't just leave the kids and ... what should I do?'' She looked up at me and her eyes were watery. Her mascara was running down her chin. Still, she looked stunning. Billie looked at me; he was signaling that I should ask about the hospital room. I nodded. Adie looked confused. I told her, and she understood. She was in on it. That went better than expected.
