5. Taco Cup
"Thanks for coming to Taco Cup, would you like to try our Spicy Cup or a Chocolate milkshake?"
Okay. I don't know which is worse, having to say, 'Would you like to try our Spicy Cup?' or the hat we had to wear.
The hat was a sideways taco shell with a cup sitting on top of it, which honestly had everything to do with what we sell here. We sold crushed up tacos served in a jumbo cup, you had the choice of hard shell or soft shell with your choice of toppings (Tomato, Lettuce, etc) along with our special 'secret' mild and hot taco sauce that our boss and owner, Leonard, makes himself.
I don't wanna know what he puts in it.
Julien twirled a pretzel wrapped around a corndog on a stick. "Mind telling me how people enjoy eating these things?" he asked as he handed it to me, I rolled my eyes and grabbed it from him.
"Because they are mindless zombies and if they don't eat this, they will go after our brains," I told him as I walked over to the truck window and handed the corndog pretzel out the window to a teenager who smiled as she took it from me. I coughed and pointed toward the 'College Fund' jar, she rolled her eyes and put a penny in it.
Cheapskate.
I looked at Julien who was trying to think over what I had just said, I chuckled and shook my head as I turned around to make a chocolate shake.
A man in a brown trucker cap and a camouflage shirt walked through the door, grinning as he walked towards us "Hey, how are y'all doin' back here?" Leonard asked as he looked between me and Julien.
"Burning up. When are you gonna fix the cooling in this thing? For a food truck, its heat and cold vents suck," Julien said, as Leo rolled his eyes at the young and irritated friend of mine before shaking his head.
"I plan on getting someone up here tonight to fix it. I know the Florida heat can be rough, but you two can tough it out for the rest of the day. I think the pool is still open so if you need to cool off... run and jump," he said, then smacked Julien's taco hat before walking to the front of the truck and cranking up his music.
Julien scowled "Run and jump," he said in a mocking tone before rolling his eyes.
I gave Julien a look: "Don't mock him. I can't afford to be fired," I said as I finished making up the shake and handed it to him, I moved on to the funnel cake on a stick station and made one of those dipped in a strawberry goo.
The bell went off.
"Hey, Katie. Can you take the next order?" Julien asked from the end of the truck at the drink machine, the bell kept ringing over and over, making me roll my eyes and turn around as quickly as possible.
"I'm coming, sir-" I stopped talking with the strawberry fun-cake-stick in my hand.
"Hey, Kat."
I just stared at him wide-eyed "Levi" I said, shocked, and saw a blonde woman hanging onto his arm "And ..date?" I guessed as Levi nodded to my hand, I looked down at the fun-cake-stick and shrugged.
"Some kid has a sugar tooth," I said for no reason as Julien passed and took it out of my hands, I rolled my eyes as he served it to a kid out the window and nodded to Levi. I smiled, "Um, what can I get you guys?"
Levi was grinning, I don't know if it was because of my awkwardness or because of his date, he looked at the menu beside the window "How about two-"
"Chocolate milkshakes and a funnel cake in a cup to split?" the blonde asked, interrupting him with a sweet smile on her face, although she looked at me ... kind of funny. I raised an eyebrow but nodded as Levi looked confusingly down at his date before shrugging.
