I never gave a lot of thought to how my life would end. Would it be on a plane like my parents? In a car accident? Or just dying normally. I never thought that I would have an accident with a car that involved me getting hurt.
Yet here I was laid up in a hospital bed with my arm in a cast and a brace on my foot, the X-rays showing a sign of a broken rib. It hurts like crazy but luckily they were giving me painkillers to numb it down.
And I wish that someone would give Roman a nerve pill.
He sat beside my hospital bed in a chair shaking his leg, it was making me nervous. I looked over toward him to see a worried expression on his face.
"This is all my fault. I shouldn't have fought Levi."
"Nope. I wasn't looking both ways before crossing the street. It is all my fault. And I should have never dated Levi in the first place." It was tough admitting it out loud before someone, which only made a tear fall from my eye. I reached up to wipe it away but the stupid IV stopped me.
Roman looked like he was studying me as I tried my hardest to wipe away the teardrop.
"I'm sorry, Katie. I was being selfish" I looked toward him and found my brother hanging his head "You deserve to be with whoever you want. I was just trying to protect you like I always have. You are my baby bear, and you always will be in my eyes," he said as he wiped away a tear of his own "I don't want to see that you are growing up."
Hearing those words come out of Roman's mouth made me stop and think, my brother really does care for me and only wants what is best. Maybe we have been a little rough on each other here lately.
I reached over with my casted arm and tried to wrap my fingers around his which did not work. He wrapped his hand around the cast though.
"I love you, bro. But you have to accept that I am an adult now. I will be eighteen in a few months. And I go to college in September. We have all summer to be together and figure everything out."
Roman leaned over and kissed me on the head as the door opened to my hospital room and Jul walked in with Heath. Heath grinned as he made his way toward me and showed me a stuffed bear.
"Look, Kate. I got you something to make you feel better."
Jul rolled his eyes at his friend. "We. We got you something, I paid for most of it" he said like he was offended by his friend trying to take all of the credit.
I took the bear and placed it beside me on the bed "Thanks, guys. It is very cute" I told them as Heath sat on the edge of the bed and Jul looked out the window.
"Where is Levi?"
We all three looked to Roman who had a natural expression on his face. Jul cleared his throat "Downstairs in the lobby. He didn't want to come in because of you two fighting" he said and picked at a scab on his hand "He wanted to respect Katie and you by doing that."
My eyes flickered toward Roman to see he looked like he had a hint of respect toward Levi for staying outside. It just made me like Levi even more.
Roman stood up suddenly and headed towards the door, I watched with worriment and looked back at his two friends who were wide-eyed with worry.
Surely he wouldn't hurt Levi in the hospital, right? I mean, it's the perfect place for a fight but I don't want to see either of them get hurt.
I looked between Heath and Jul "Surely he wouldn't fight Levi in a hospital" I said with worry as Jul looked at me with concern.
Heath shook his head no, "No way. Rome isn't that stupid. If anything they may curse each other out" he said with a small chuckle causing Jul to smack him upside the head.
I looked up at the TV that was playing an old TV show and sighed. If they do anything to put the other in the hospital, I'll kill them both.
It did surprise me when the two guys walked into the room together, if anything it made me smile.
Seeing the dynamic duo back together was a happy sight, and I was glad to see it even though I was in the hospital. And when Levi winked at me, my heart did a backflip. How? I don't know, I just know that it felt like it.
"Alright, now that you two have kissed and made up," Jul told the two friends who flipped him their middle fingers making him roll his eyes "We need to focus on getting our Katie-cat better so she can prepare for college."
It was the truth. Now that one part of things was fixed, I had to prepare myself mentally and physically for college. Who knew what would happen or how well Levi and I would stay together.
I guess only time would tell.
Roman cleared his throat, "Well, the nurse said she can be let go in a couple of days as long as she has help walking and stuff because of her ankle" he said and leaned against the wall across from me.
I sighed, "Great. I get the help of the four musketeers" I mumbled, mostly to myself, making Levi smile as he sat down beside me and put a hand on my cast making me look up at him.
"Don't worry. We won't let Heath take care of you."
That gave me some relief as I smiled at him, catching the look Roman had given us. Were these two really made up? Or were they just pretending?
