The boy scooped up as much snow as he could at once, and smacking his gloved hands together packed it. He placed it against the ground and began to roll it through the snow in repeated, methodical sweeping motions. The ball stripped up the unspoiled blanket in narrow rags, and he made three of them, each decreasing in size.
Button eyes. A carrot. Thin, fallen branches for arms, and a wide smile of pebbles curving toward its nose.
Red dye dripping from its wooden arms. A thin knife fastened onto one end.
He tried to blame it on the snowman.
