It hurts to know you’re happy and it hurts that you moved on

A blinding red light pierced itself through into Michael's vision, making him squint and blink slowly. His head was throbbing painfully, the light hurting his eyes.

"Look who's finally up."

Michael blinked faster and looked up, coming face to face with Luke.

"Luke! No- Please-" Michael stuttered, trying to get away, only to find that his hands were tied up behind his back by some sort of rope.

Luke stepped forward and took a swig of what Michael believed was a bottle of beer. He wiped his mouth on the back of his hand. Based on his stance, he was clearly beyond tipsy.

"Luke! Please- You're not old enough to drink! Please- Please Luke!" Michael begged, tears streaming down his face.

"You," Luke burped, "should've thought about that before you sent me to fucking jail!"

"Luke please! This isn't you! We used to be friends- best friends! Please, this isn't you!" Michael pleaded.

Luke silenced Michael by slapping him hard across the face, Michael hissing in pain in return.

"I thought I could trust you. But you went to him and now you're fucking gay."

"That wasn't his fault- I always was- please- don't hurt him!" Michael begged.

"Why did you go to him?!" Luke yelled, grabbing Michael by the throat, choking him. "Why did you go?!"

Michael gasped and spluttered, his throat constricting around itself.

"Answer me!" Luke demanded, pushing his hand deeper into Michael's neck.

"I-" Michael spluttered out, "I liked- him."

Luke cringed and pulled his hand away from Michael. Michael doubled over and coughed and spluttered, wheezing and trying to catch his breath.

"You were gay while we were friends?" Luke slurred.

Michael continues to try and catch his breath, not being able to answer Luke and avoiding eye contact.

"How long were you gay for?" Luke yelled, kicking Michael in the stomach, winding Michael yet again.

"Three- Three years." Michael wheezed. “Please- I have to go to him- He was upset- Please-”

“You want to see him?” Luke slurred, squatting down in front of Michael.

Michael nods quickly. “Please!”

Luke untied the rope from the wall but kept Michael’s hand tightly secured with the other end. Michael was shocked, to say the least. Was Luke really going to let him go?

Luke harshly pulled Michael up and dragged him across to the room, to a desk where the source of the red light was coming from. The monitor on the desk was littered with smaller screens showing different parts of the town they lived in.

“You see, I spent a few days hooking up my monitor to all the security cameras around plus,” Luke explained, pointing to a series of screens in the corner. “I put one in each of your bedrooms.”

Michael looked in shock at the miniature version of his and Ashton’s room on the screen. There was a third, which Michael assumed to be Calum’s.

“Yeah I’ve seen you and Ashton sleeping together for days. I’ve seen it all.” Luke scoffed. “And look here.”

Luke pointed to a screen closer to the middle of the monitor which was a view of a small part of the forest, close to where he and Ashton had fought, however long ago (he didn’t have a good sense of the current time). It was hard to make out but Michael could see Ashton standing with Calum. They were standing too close.
