SCHOOL DAYS AND ALL

Arrival

Carrie had gone to the admission test in Rivervale for the admission and she had been accepted. On the 1st of January the two girls were escorted by their parents to the railway station. Mrs Redwor beckoned Iris away from her siblings and gave her a parcel. Inside was a beautiful pencil box with three ink pens, a blotter and other writing tools. Under the pencil box was a dainty little journal . Iris' eyes filled with tears. "Mommy , you didn't have to" she said "Ire , you haven't had a new pencil box or a journal for years, you needed it, now buck up and don't show it to the kids or they'll want one too"said Mrs Redwor " thank you "said Iris and hugged her mom.

Then she went to her siblings (there were 4 of them)Nora who was 17 wasn't there as she was in a boarding school,Edward (11)gave her a chocolate , Vivix (10)(or Squibbles as she was called) pressed a book into her hands and Baby Frida hugged her. Ruby Carrie's older sister was telling her what to do and what not to."And clean the seniors boots for them when they're feeling cranky and curtsy whenever you meet a mistress and also""U mm I don't know if schools are run like that nowadays"interrupted Iris . At that moment Mr and Mrs Redwor and Mr and Mrs. Robinson arrived with a lady " Iris and Carrie, this is your assistant mistress Miss Johns"introduced Mr Redwor . "Pleased to make your acquaintance ,if you'r finished with good byes ,then you'd like to follow me"said Miss Johns in a prim voice. Carrie and Iris after hugging their parents and siblings followed Miss Johns to a train carriage , where 5 girls seemed to be relating holiday experiences."Did you know"said a fat girl sitting at the window corner"I spent my holidays at the Queen's hotel in London""You'v no need to brag like that Erica ,you make us feel like we're poor orphans "said another girl."Haven't you guys any manners ,leaving the poor newcomers to themselves"said a friendly girl of 13. Then turning to Iris and Carrie she said "Hi, I'm Meg Newman and I'm sorry that we left you out, What are your names?"she asked "I'm Iris and this is my best friend Carrie "replied Iris "What are your names"she asked. "This is Slacker Sylvia Sliveton , our prunes and prisms Prissie( Priscilla) Brown,our champion bragger Erica Cromwell (at which Erica said"Oh you'r mean,I won't talk to you "and turned her back to Meg)and last but not least Stacy Bradley our very own joker, prankster and comedian" answered Meg and sat down with a mock curtsy."It wasn't a bit funny Margaret"said prim Prissie after the giggles had subsided."You know I don't like to be called "Margaret""said Meg furiously."Let's not quarrel ,look we're reaching the Academy"said Sylvia hastily. By then they had reached the Academy, it was a glorious sight ,the ancient castle with its picturesque towers on a cliff in a large island(yes Kiplon was an island).By the time they had got out of the train and rowed across the island it was supper time. All the girls had to dress up in their white frocks ,and the old students had to wear(as a symbol to their houses)colored sashes and badges.Lily house had the color pink ,Daisy had yellow color,Daffodils had white color,Roses had red color and Poppies had purple color.Miss Johns led Iris and Carrie to the rest rooms inside the castle . She led Iris and Carrie to separate rooms ."But we were supposed to share a room"argued Carrie ." Today all newcomers will sleep in guest rooms ,tomorrow you'r house will be told to you and the exam list will decide your form so today night you will sleep here ,after supper you will be requested to go to the auditorium for the elections "said Miss Johns sternly and disappeared. Supper was a gloomy meal and Iris and Carrie were sandwiched between other newcomers who felt too shy to speak. After supper Meg Newman got hold of Iris and Carrie and led them to the auditorium . There was the whole school in the auditorium and a pretty girl with auburn hair of about 19 stood at the stage .When the principal Miss Dennis arrived the girl asked "Is everyone here ?"On receiving the answer she started her speech"Hello and Welcome everyone ,I am Beatrix Taylor former head girl of our very own "Kiplon Arts Academy", everyone knows why I'm here tonight but for the newcomers I will explain properly . There is a tradition in the Academy that at the first day of the new school year the former head girl of the school should be present to give a speech to the whole school and to host the elections of the new head girl ,sports captain, Justice and peace manager,monitresses and prefects.,So first I will read the list of eligible candidates for each post and their attributes and virtues ,all the newcomers are requested to come to my left side and occupy these chairs because as they don't know anyone yet they will not participate in the elections.Time passed away as Beatrix read the list of candidates and their attributes.At last the posts of head girl , sports captain and JPM were occupied by Cecily Wilson , Eleanor Clark and Bella Scott respectively. Among the prefects was Meg Newman and monitresses were mainly from the upper forms . After that Beatrix gave a short speech and then all students retired to their bedrooms.Iris had a surprise in her room , there was another girl inside .She was a pretty girl with long glossy black hair and her name was Mackenzie Evans , Iris developed a friendship
with her and although she didn't know it the friendship was the first step to unpleasant circumstances.
