When I walk into my class before lunch, I am summoned by the teacher. She speaks in a hushed tone, telling me that I am wanted in the office. Curiosity, moreover anxiety carries my feet, in their beat up old converse, to the office. The office is sectioned into four rooms. The first being the waiting area, the second our principal, Mr. Davis, and the third Mr. Lewinsky's, the deputy principal.

The fourth room, I have no idea what it is for. Probably files or something. There aren’t really any of them in Mr. Davis’s office. The waiting room is more of a waiting room/ the unofficial office of the secretary, Lucia. It’s quite plain with a couple of chairs, for the kids waiting, and there’s also a desk.

When I walk in I am greeted by Lucia. She smiles at me. Lucia is a very nice woman. She is such a cheery lady. She has chubby red cheeks and a round shaped body. She’s also quite funny too. She loves to tell jokes. And I have a feeling there’s going to be one today.

“Hey, Lucia,” I greet.

“Ah, Savannah. How are you, love? How’s little Jake?” She questions.

I forgot to mention, she’s quite the nosey one too. But it doesn’t really bother me, in the sense that she does it and is completely unaware.

“Yeah, we’re both doing fine.” Beating her to it, I ask, “any jokes?”

She smiles. “As a matter of fact I do. It’s a knock-knock joke. Ready? Knock-knock.”

“Who’s there?”

“Crab.”

“Crap who?”

“Crab your towel, we’re going to the beach.”

I laugh slightly at the joke, but I don’t really find it funny. Lucia doesn’t notice how my laugh is fake. That’s good.

“So, um, I was told that I had to come down here?”

“Oh yes. Mr. Davis would like to see you. Two moments.

I wait, sitting patiently, while Lucia knocks on Mr. Davis’s door. She opens the door, when I’m assuming he says come in. She comes back out then and ushers me into the room. I close the door behind me.

Mr. Davis is a nice man. A good principal. From the times I’ve been in his office, whether it’s good or bad, he’s always been understanding. The only problem I have with him, is that he has no dress sense. Currently, he is wearing a red shirt with moss green, velour-like trousers.

“Ah, Ms. King. Take a seat.”

There’s two plastic chairs set down and, taking my bag off, I do as I’m told and take one of them. “Did I do something wrong?” I ask nervously.

“I’m afraid so.” He tells me. I feel my stomach drop. If I get suspended, it’ll go on my record. I’ll never be able to get into any college, let alone Cammerra. “You see, we have footage of two days ago, where you are seen leaving the building.”

I completely forgot about that. I was in such a rush that I didn’t even think about signing out or anything. I just left.

“We looked in the log book and your name wasn’t on the sign out sheet. I’m sorry to say, Ms. King, but that means that you should be suspended.” I feel like crying again. “But, I know how much you want to get into Cammerra, so I’m going to be reasonable and only give you two days detention.”

I sigh in relief. “Thank you so much, Mr. Davis.” He nods his head. Then I remember something. “I’m so sorry, and I know this isn’t exactly right, but would there be any way that I could begin my detention next week? You see, every day after school, I pick up Jake. I would just ask my mother but she can’t, she’s gone on a three day business trip. She’s on her way to Europe as we speak.”
