Confession.... To the Entire School

In celebration, it was customary for the winning captain to give speech. Before he did though, he had one thing to do.

"Merida? Can I talk to you a second?" Hiccup asked her. She was talking to some of the cheerleaders about their performance. She was head cheerleader and had permission to scold anyone she didn't deem cheer enough.

"Sure Hiccy, " Merida answered. She tried to grab his hand, but he wouldn't let her. She was confused at the action, but said nothing. Hiccup gestured to follow and she obliged. They only stopped when they were about 3 yards from the bleachers. "What is this about?"

"I'm sorry to do this now, but.... We have to break up." Merida's eyes widened in shock and when she spoke next, her voice cracked.

"W-what? Why? D-did I do something wrong?" Merida tried to stop her tears, but failed miserably.

"No, it's not you. It's me, as clique that sounds." Merida scoffed.

"Likely story! Who is it?!" Hiccup didn't answer. "So there is someone." Merida didn't bother hiding her anger. "It's that VK girl, isn't it?! I knew they were trouble!"

"It's not Heather." Just then, Snotlout came by to tell Hiccup that he was about to go on.

"You're my boyfriend now." Merida stated. Snotlout was confused but went along with it. The two walked off and Hiccup followed when the two were far enough away. Heather and Jack were among the first to notice Merida walking arm in arm with Snotlout. Heather was distinctly disappointed.

"I take it the potion worked, " She muttered.

"You know, maybe if she was focused on her own skills more than getting a boyfriend, she would probably be happier." Jack offered her a grin that she returned gladly.

"Thanks."

"No prob-" Hiccup had taken the microphone and had started his speech. By now everyone was whispering about Merida and Snotlout. After Hiccup quieted everyone down, he began.

"So, we just won!" Jack giggled at his awkwardness. Something told him that the one legged teen was always like that. "Can I get a scream?" No one did. They were all wondering what happened between the 'strive to be' couple.

Hiccup noticed the crowd looking back and forth between him and the, apparently new, couple. Jack felt kinda bad for Merida, but not nearly as bad as he did for Hiccup. Saying he was with a guy must be hard. What if people ended up hating Hiccup for it? People only let his father get away with it because they were scared of him. That didn't mean they approved.

Hiccup sighed and continued. "Yes, before anything else. Merida and I have broken up." There was a collective gasp from the audience. The only ones who didn't were Heather, Tom, Tuff, Fishlegs, Marco, and Jack. Jack hid his face. "And I- I like someone else. "

Everyone, except the VK's, was on the edge of their seats. They wanted to know who the lucky girl was. "And I think they know who they are. Jack." Jack's head shot up. He knew this was coming. Why was he so nervous? "Will you go to coronation with me?" Jack had yell, but he said yes.

School on Monday

Jack was now getting more attention than he ever had before, even from the isle. No one said anything directly to him, but they made sure he heard their side conversations.

"So unnatural."

"It's a spell, it has to be."

"I know! The Hiccup I know wouldn't go with a guy."

"It'll wear off."

"That isle rat." It didn't help that Jack had nowhere near the intimidation he had on the isle. He would open his locker to hate letters. They said things like, Dirty isle rat!, Go back to your filthy nest!, Kill Yourself! Every single one was a variation of hate or death threat. Jack didn't get it. Wasn't this place supposed to be good?

Jack would never let his sadness show to Hiccup. Since he was a chief in waiting, they didn't dare express hate to him for fear of being punished. And whenever Hiccup was around, they put on happy and approving facades. The only ones who weren't mean were Marco, Fishlegs, Macey, Ruffnut, and all the VK's.

Marco kept saying that Jack should go tell North but Jack put the idea down. If he did that, things would just get worse. Besides, he would have his revenge on coronation. Or, would he? He had been thinking and thinking on it. If he did, Hiccup would never love him. But his father would destroy him if he didn't. That was made clear with the video call to their parents on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Hiccup asked Jack on an official date. Jack said sure casually, but on the inside he was freaking out. He went to Heather and asked for her help. They decided on a light blue, long sleeved shirt, a black leather jacket, and regular blue jeans. Jack had to be convinced to wear his black sneakers. He liked having no shoes.

"Are you scared of your dad?" Heather caught Jack off guard with the question. Heather was trying to tame his hair, a seemingly impossible deed. Jack took a minute to answer.

"I.... I feel they just want the best for us." He tried to convince himself as well as her of his words. "I mean, they still have to love us, right?" Heather plastered a fake smile, trying to make it real. A few more minutes of silence and Heather gave up on his hair.

"Alright! That's the best I can get it." Jack looked in the mirror. His hair hadn't changed. Just then a knock was heard. Jack went to open the door. Hiccup stood there, twiddling his fingers out of nerves but had stopped upon seeing Jack.

"Wow! You look amazing, " Hiccup said. Jack blushed. Hiccup had his leather armor removed and was replaced with a scarlet zip up hoodie. Other than that, his outfit was the same, down to the one shoe. It looked as though Hiccup had tried, and failed, to tame his hair as well.

"So do you." Jack said. Heather looked at the two and smiled. They were cute.

"Shall we?" Hiccup offered Jack his hand. Jack gladly took it. Hiccup noticed his hand fit perfectly with Jack's. It was a bit colder than usual, but Hiccup only reveled in the fact that he was holding his boyfriends hand. Heather smiled brightly as she closed the door.
