You form an unexpected Alliance

You were accustomed by now to hang out in Dib's house. Whether to watch a movie or work in a new machine, you had found the Membrane household was more comfortable and fun (and especially safe) to hang out at than in your own home. You and Dib were just enjoying a snack in the kitchen along with Gaz before continuing building your new weapon: The destabilizer. A device that could effectively drain all or most energy from irken machines.

"Man I love the new additions we made to the controls, we definitely have to try it out after this!" Dib bubbled, his voice sometimes muffled by the pastry he was chewing.

You swallowed yours as well, even though you couldn't actually taste it. "I knoooow! Do you think it's going to cause a power outage like last time though? Your neighbours seem pretty mad about it"

The boy thought about it for a moment. "Naaaaah. It'll be okay. They'll thank us when we save the world."

You gave each other a smile while Gaz called you idiots under her breath. Unknowingly to you, someone else was about to join.

Professor Membrane suddenly opened the front door, his eyes glued to the floating screen showing an image of his assistant. "Jerry, remind me to get plutonium for the new radiation research, I cannot fail this time!"

The man was interrupted by his children saying hello, which was quickly answered before going back to his work.

"-We need to get more interns in the physics department, otherwise we...we- uh..." Professor Membrane finally noticed you sitting at the kitchen table while you watched Gaz and Dib fight over the last muffin.

"Um- Jerry, how many children did I make again?" The scientist asked.

"Only two Professor Membrane." His assistant replied.

"I'll call you back later." The man hang up the video call and approached the kitchen, interrupting your conversation.

"Son, haven't I told you it is illegal to do experiments on your classmates without their consent?" He chided.

Dib looked confused at first, but then realised what his father meant. "Oh! Y/n? No, it's not like that, we're just hanging out- And definitely not doing any kind of experiment whatsoever." He quickly added.

"Um, it's true!" You exclaimed, not wanting his father to find out about your little project. "It's nice to meet you Professor Membrane, I'm Y/n. I'm Dib's friend from school."

The word 'friend' hit the man like a voot cruiser. "Why, son! Why didn't you tell me you had a little friend?! And here I was thinking that my son's INSANE claims had distanced him from his peers."

"Ugh, dad don't be weird." Dib complained, crossing his arms.

"I'm just happy to know you have some sane company around." The scientist stole a glance at his clock before turning to you. "Say little lady, what if we celebrate this unexpected occurrence by showing you the work of my life?!"

"Oh, it's okay, I've already seen-" Before you could finish your sentence Dib nudged you, reminding you of the 'rule' you had previously broken.

"Um, I meant- Sure! I'd love to go to the laboratory I have no previous knowledge of!" You grinned awkwardly.

The Professor nodded, leading the way.

Nothing you hadn't seen before, The quantum computers on one side, unfinished robots in other, blueprints in the far corner. But then again you had a lie to maintain.
