chapter 8: perseverance

The next morning ari woke up late, and everyone was gone. Still in her pajamas, she decided to go get breakfast. She got some cereal (frosted flakes), and some water. After that, she was sitting outside and listening to the things around her. Then, she saw ryuko walking towards her with a bag. Ari stood up with a smile on her face, happy to see ryuko. As ryuko was face to face with ari, ryuko asked, "Hey, is it ok if we sit at a table inside". Ari nodded and opened the door for ryuko. As they both sat down at a table ryuko slid the bag she was carrying over to ari. Confused, Ari asked, "i-is this for me". Ryuko nodded as ari pointed to the bag. Ari smiled and said, "thank you so much". Ryuko smiled as ari looked at the bag. She reached into the bag and pulled out a box, with a picture of headphones on it. "I heard you liked music, so I got you a pair of headphones for your phone, but there's something else in the bag" ,ryuko said as she pointed back to the bag. Ari set the head phones to the side, once again thanking her. She looked in the bag and pulled out a pen and piece of paper. As she read the paper she looked to ryuko with a shocked expression. Ryuko smiled and continued, "those aren't the official adoption papers, it'll take a long while before I can get them, but you can fill that out until then". Ari looked back at the paper and tears started to stain the paper. Ryuko walked next to ari and as she did ari quickly grabbed her and pulled ryuko into a hug with tears rolling down her face. "T-thank you" ,ari said with a smile. Ryuko smiled and hugged back. As ari let go ryuko stood up and said, "I'll leave you to do what you want, I'll of course check in every now and then, but for now I'm going to do everything I can to adopt you as some as possible". Ari wiped away her tears and nodded. Ryuko and her went on the porch to say goodbye. As ryuko left todoroki turned the corner and looked to ari. As he walked up to her he asked, "why are you still in you pajamas, and bare foot, you can get a sprinter or a cut that way you know". Ari smiled and put her hands on her hips, "well hello to you too shoto". She laughed as he smiled and sat next to her. He handed her a box and said, "well, I brought you lunch, I didn't know what you would like so I got you the same thing I have". He handed her a box and on it, it had a piece of paper taped to it, with "cold soba" written on it. As ari grabbed it she read what it said as she looked to him and asked, "cold soba, isn't that your favorite food". He nodded as ari looked back to the box sitting in front of her. She opened it up and took a bite of it. Her eyes lit up as she took another bite, bigger than the last, stuffing her cheeks. Todoroki smiled a little, "it seems you like cold soba just as much as me". She looked to him and swallowed, she nodded with a big smile. He smiled as they both continued to eat. Ari looked to the papers ryuko gave her, and then looked to todoroki, "Hey shoto". He flinched and looked to her as he kept eating.



She smiled, "guess what, im going to try to get into U.A.". He stopped eating as he asked, "How so". She grabbed the papers and passed them to todoroki, "they aren't the official papers, it's going to be a long while before she can get a hold of those". He read the papers and looked back to Ari with a smile, "I'm happy for you ari, I know how long you've wanted to be apart of a family". He handed her the papers back as she had a little red on her cheeks. She grabbed the pen and looked to the papers, "I was thinking about changing my name though, but I'm not sure". Todoroki asked, "I thought you said you liked the name ari". Ari looked to todoroki and answered, "I do, don't get me wrong, but... It's a name that is based off of my previous name... 1189 makes me feel like I was an animal, and for my name to be something related to my past name, I don't think I can deal with that". Todoroki nodded as he asked, "so what do you suggest". She thought for a moment before she said, "well I was thinking hikoshi, I know it's a guys name but it means wit and virtue, but in my opinion hikoshi sounds like a girls name too". He nodded as he said, "I can see how it sounds like a girl name too, hikoshi tatsuma, catchy". Ari wrote that down as she said, "well after I am officially adopted you can call me hikoshi, since you have allowed me to call you shoto". He nodded as he asked, "so what do I call you till then, ari, tatsuma". She thought for a moment before she answered, "I guess ari, it's a lot easier". He nodded and looked at his watch. He stood up and grabbed their empty boxes, "well i need to get back to class, but I'll see you when school ends". She stood up and nodded, giving him a hug. As he left ari smiled to herself as she went back inside and back to her room.
