chapter 11: today's the day

Before hikoshi knew it, a month had passed by and school was starting that day. She had been working hard, and training with her quirks. It was going to be a tough day cause not only did she have to go to school, afterwards she would have to do her homework and unpack. Her alarm went off and she shot up. She turned it off and she hopped out of bed. She quickly made her bed and got changed, she packed her books and gym uniform in her shoulder bag and grabbed her phone closing the door behind her. She quickly brushed her hair and teeth, and jolted to the kitchen. She grabbed a piece of toast, ryuko waved good morning and hikoshi gave her a hug, "bye ryu, I'll see you later". She let go and waved goodbye as she ran out the door. As she closed the door she saw todoroki waiting for her with a drink in hand. She smiled and jogged up to him, "hey sho what are you doing here". He started, "i thought it would be nice if we walked to school together, i bought you a drink on my way over here, i thought you might want something that will wake you up so you can focus". Todoroki handed her the drink and as she took it she said, "you didn't have to do that, but thank you, everything's so new to me, so I might need your help big time". Todoroki smiled and they started walking. She took a sip of the drink and her eyes lit up, "uh, hey sho, what is this drink called". He looked to her, "I didn't know what you'd like, so I got you a ice coffee, nothing fancy". She laughed, "it's fancy in my opinion, heheh I feel so sophisticated now". She held out her pinky and took another sip which led to a laugh from todoroki. She had a big smile as the two of them headed to school.

As they arrived, hikoshi threw away her cup and todoroki asked, "so hiko, what class are you in". Hikoshi looked to her paper, "um, it says class 1-A, do you know where that is". He nodded, "I'm in that class too, all you have to do is follow me". She smiled and nodded as they both headed to class.

Todoroki walked in and sat in his seat, a lot of the students walked up to him asking if hikoshi got in but he remained silent. They all rushed to their seats when they heard aizawa enter the room. "We have a new student joining us today, if she needs help with anything make sure she gets it" ,aizawa started. He looked to the door, "You can introduce yourself now". Hikoshi quietly walked in and looked around the classroom. She stood in front of the class and started, "h-hi, my name is hikoshi tatsuma, I'm happy that I can finally be here, and I can't wait to get to know everyone more". Aizawa continued, "thank you tatsuma, there's a seat available in the back next to todoroki". She saw the seat and smiled. She walked over and sat her bag down, she looked to todoroki and smiled and then looked to the teacher. "Now that we have introductions out of the way, everyone change into your gym uniforms and meet me outside" ,aizawa started. Hikoshi sighed and everyone stood up. As everyone was leaving hikoshi tapped todoroki on the shoulder, "i guess I'll see you outside sho". He nodded and they both headed to the locker rooms.

Behind the school, everyone was in gym uniforms. Aizawa stood in front of them and started, "today we are going to have another quirk apprehension test". Asui raised her hand and asked, "but sir, last time you said that you would expel someone, this time i dont think that will work". Aizawa sighed and continued, "now that we have a new student, we're going to have to get rid of a student and send them to 1-B, so for the rest of my class you will go through trials and whoever has the lowest score will be booted from my class". Everyone tensed up, they knew this was true, there were to many students, and if they got booted to 1-B then it would lower their chances of getting recognized. Hikoshi thought to herself, 'i could be booted before my journey has even begun, and that would lower my chances of getting recognized more then anyone since i just got here... I have to do my best'. Aizawa continued, "with that out of the way, lets begin with the 50-meter dash, it's pretty self explanatory". Hikoshi looked to todoroki and smiled, "good luck sho". He smiled back and they continued to walk in silence. So after, it was hikoshi's turn and she was going against uraraka and midoriya. To be honest, everyone thought it was really a race between hikoshi and midoriya, they were the fastest and it all depended on who was faster. Hikoshi stretched her wings and readied herself. The horn wailed, and before anyone could blink midoriya and hikoshi took off leaving uraraka behind. With hikoshi's wings alone she extremely fast but she used her wind to propel herself more. She flipped to slow herself down and landed just before midoriya passed. "1.6 seconds" ,the robot spoke as hikoshi crossed the line. "1.8 seconds" ,the robot continued as midoriya crossed the line. Finally uraraka finished at 6 seconds. All three out of breath, hikoshi started, "your fast midoriya you almost passed me up, sorry uraraka for leaving you like that". Uraraka shook her head and midoriya answered, "thanks, but are you sure you dont have the same quirk as hawks". Hikoshi laughed, "yes I'm sure, he told me himself that it's similar but my wings are a lot more durable". The next students were up and they all stepped back. After some other tests it was finally time for the last test, the pitch. After everyone went, it was now hikoshi's turn. She walked up and before she started aizawa walked up to her and stopped her. He started to talk to her, but the other students couldn't hear a thing. "I guess what I'm trying to get at, is are you mentally stable enough to become a hero, i know i gave you recommendation, but i want to know if that was the right choice" ,aizawa continued leaving hikoshi a bit shellshocked. Her brows furrowed and todoroki noticed this. He was a bit surprised and looked to everyone else who also noticed it. She grabbed the ball and took a deep breath as he quickly stood back. Her eyes turned light grey as she put the softball in her wing as if it was a hand. She quickly swung around and threw the ball using her wind to propel the ball through the air. It disappeared from site and aizawa looked to the device he held in his hand. His eyes widened slightly as it read that she now had the highest throwing score out of everyone, beside uraraka of course. She turned on the tips of her heels and walked past him, "was that stable enough for you". He looked to her as she joined the other students. Everyone looked to her surprised and as she stood next to todoroki he looked to her even more surprised, he had never seen her so angry, to be honest he thought she looked kind of cute when she was mad. Aizawa cleared his thought as he brought everyone's attention back to him. "Now that we have finished I'll post everyone's scores at once" ,he said as he dragged a board out in front of the class. Hikoshi's face softened as she looked to the board, she sighed when she saw she was in second place. Aizawa started, "oh and by the way, that was another lie just so i can get 100% from you, if i can deal with all of you then i can deal with one more problem child". Hikoshi heard he say that and even though she was mad at aizawa she smiled, 'that's so sweet, deep down he secretly cares'. He instructed everyone to head back to class and the followed his instructions while the expressed excitement that they wouldn't get moved back. Hikoshi and todoroki lingered in the back of the group and hikoshi's face once again furrowed. "I dont see how bakugou can be anger all the time, its so tiring, it makes me want to take a nap" ,hikoshi sighed as she hunched over a bit in exhaustion, her face going back to normal. Todoroki chimed in, "are you sure you're not tired from the quirk Apprehension Test". She glared at him with tired eyes and he smirked. "Okay okay, sorry, but what did he say to make you so mad" ,he said as she sat up straight, still filled with tired eyes. She looked at the floor and sighed, "i really shouldn't have gotten mad, it's just that he said something that people have been telling me my whole life, he asked if he made the right choice giving me a recommendation, and if i was mentally stable enough to be a hero, many people until now never gave me a chance, or believed i could do something great. I was either seen as a monster or something someone can test on, not good enough, never satisfying anyone... my efforts meaningless. Heh, i guess i didn't handle it very well though, maybe i am mentally unstable". Hikoshi finished with a laugh. Todoroki was surprised that aizawa had given her a recommendation but he quickly dismissed it. His brows furrowed as he stared at her, "I'm sorry you had to go through that hikoshi, you've never been given the confidence to do more, to be your best, and i think you handled it quite well. You can do amazing things and i think that you should believe that and never let anyone tell you you cant do something, of course mr. Aizawa made the right choice". She looked to him with a thankful smile. They noticed that they had reached the locker rooms and they parted ways for a bit before joining back up after changed into their school attire. As they reached the classroom everyone took their seats. Aizawa was in the front of the class, looking at some papers and then noticing hikoshi looking at him timidly. He sat the papers down and looked to her. She bowed 90 degrees clenching the end of her skirt as she spoke, "I'm sorry mr. Aizawa, it was disrespectful of me to get mad, I shouldn't have done that and i hope that you can forgive me". Everyone looked a bit surprised after hearing her confess that she was mad. He answered, "no need to apologize". Hikoshi looked up to him confused as he continued, "i think i should be apologizing, i should have given you a chance before letting my negative thoughts get the better of me, but could you see where i was coming from, you've been through a lot and I didn't want what happened to you in the past to affect your chances in the future". She nodded and then took a step back when he bowed, "again, I'm sorry that i treated you like that, as a teacher i should have been better". He lifted his head and she smiled with a nod, everyone was left a bit stunned as she continued to sit in her seat next to todoroki. Aizawa cleared his throat as he shuffled the papers neatly and handed them and a marker board to hikoshi. She flinched as she slowly took the items, wondering what they were for. He started, "the papers are a list of agencies that want to take you on as a sidekick and the board is for choosing your hero name, you have the rest of the day to come up with one and you will present it at the end of school, dont let me catch you writing on it during class, got that problem child". She nodded and set the items to the side as aizawa continued with his lesson.
