KATE
i invite the mysterious boy to walk with me.
you ever just meet someone and automatically know you're meant to be friends?
ya that's how it felt the second i saw him open his eyes.
they're so hazel... so...
shit, i'm getting distracted.
"so... what brought you to drown today?" i ask with a smirk.
Ruel drags his feet in the sand, with his hands in the pockets of his swim shorts.
"well, i started drowning because i wasn't paying attention and instead was trying to figure out if my stuff was..."
he pauses mid-sentence and frantically looks around.
what's going on?
"is everything ok," i ask, lightly touching his arm.
it sends chills down my back.
no. i can't let this happen again.
i quickly drop my hand and look down.
"i... um... i don't know where my stuff is. people have been stealing unattended items recently, and since i was gone for a while, someone must have taken my stuff," Ruel replies.
his hands are now anxiously running through his hair.
i should calm him down.
"oh, let's go try and find everything then," i suggest.
Ruel turns to face me and i feel his stare.
"really?" he asks.
i finally look up at him and meet his gaze.
"yes, just lead the way," i say with a smile.
"better catch up then!" Ruel flirts, already running 10 steps ahead of me.
i quickly catch up and nudge him with my arm.
"hey! keep it chill, you just drowned!" i add.
a smile forms on Ruel's lips.
god, don't stare at his lips... don't stare at his lips.
"don't tell me what to do" Ruel says.
i give him an eye roll.
he smiles back at me.
his smile...
why am i doing this to myself? i'll probably never seen him again after today.
well, i might as well live in the moment.
"let's go back to finding your stuff" i say.
