Home of Magentite woman Zarra. Several minutes after the skirmish
*Elle's POV*
I looked on at the villagers, who seemed like they were worshipping Colin. I don't blame them, he was the son of an Ancient.
I can't believe that the Kodai were real. From what my makers could surmise, Kodai were just rumors, mysterious people who were worshipped by many peoples, even my makers for a brief time. To actually see one, in action nonetheless, was truly a sight to behold.
I looked down at Reese, tending to his wound. Utilizing a laser cutter that I had Reese procure for the metallic body I'm currently in, I tuned the beam to cauterize the wound. Reese grunted in pain, to which I grabbed his hand.
It hurt to see him like this. I could see what that woman from Earth saw in him. He was brave, ready to charge into battle without hesitation. But, from what he told me about his life before my makers attacked, he was all alone. His headstrong selflessness was all due to the mentality of one with nothing to lose, multiplied enormously when he lost Tricia.
As I sealed the wound with a bandage Zarra supplied, I felt...sorry for him. Here was a warrior with great prowess and a sense of nobility, yet inside was a tortured, lonely man.
*Reese's POV*
I woke up to Elle's face looking down at me.
It was strange, her inside this metallic shell. I remember when I bought it after a heist two years ago. She kept bringing it up, thinking that 'it would help if you had backup'. It explained the modifications she asked for; the laster cutter, the reinforced steel, the pneumatic legs. But the screen where a face would be located, that I questioned.
"You're okay." Elle smiled.
"C-Colin..." I muttered.
"The villagers are busy... worshipping him." Elle chuckled.
"Well, he is Thor's son."
"It seems they know about Dad." Colin entered Zarra's hut. "You two lovebirds done?" Colin then walked back outside, met with cheering from the locals.
I could see Elle's screen change color in the cheek area, from blue to purple. Now that's funny.
"Thank you, Elle."
"It was no problem, Reese."
"Not only this." I pointed to my newly bandaged wound. "Thank you for everything; I'd probably be rotting in an alien prison, or dead if you hadn't been here, helping me these four years. We've had some crazy adventures, and you've saved my ass so many times. I'm glad I got you watching my back. Reminds me...of Tricia."
I got up, and walked to the window behind her, looking out at the villagers, and Colin getting them to stand.
"You still miss her, don't you?" Elle asked me.
"I do. But, there comes a time when you have to...move on. That time's come."
I reached into a leather pouch on my belt, and pulled out the engagement ring I bought her. I grabbed it after she died, something to remember her by.
I walked out of the hut, and walked to a patch of dirt. I reached into it with my hands, and dug a hole three feet deep.
I then placed her ring inside, and filled the hole. I grabbed a nearby blue stone, and jammed it into the freshly packed ground.
I knelt in front of my makeshift memorial for her.
"Goodbye, Trish. You can rest now. It's time I got going."
I stood up, only to be met with Colin and Elle. Elle hugged me, almost crushing my ribs.
"Reese, I'm... I-"
"There's more coming!"
I heard Zarra's scream, and I quickly saw her running downhill towards us.
"Aw, hell." I muttered, wondering exactly what she meant by more.
