Chapter 8"So he's just leaving?" Riley asked.
"Yup." I replied simply, as I pedaled down a long hill, with Riley riding on the back of the pegs.
"He can't just leave for 3 months. A lot can happen in that amount of time. People can move on, forget the ones they love." She was making me nervous as she kept rambling on about what could possibly happen. "Even get married."
"You're not helping." I came to a stop by a tree to rest. "You drive this thing, I'm tired." I took a moment to catch my breath and watched as Riley began to sniff the air. She looked around clearly confused.
We weren't suppose to be out the house today but me being me I didn't listen. My dad had said they had spotted a few rogues on the territory so no one was allowed out. Then Connor had to go and "command" me not to go to the mall today so we decided to ride there. Riley and I needed some girl time.
"Hurry! Let's go!!" She urgently started to slap my arm.
"What is it?"
"Look behind you." She pulled the bike upward and hopped on. Her hand tapping impatiently on the handle bars.
I turned to see Skipper and Connor walking towards us. They were a great distance away but I didn't think they noticed us.
"Do you think they see us?" Just as I said that, I heard Skipper shout a short hey and wave his hand.
"Get on!" I jumped onto the pegs and she sped as fast as the bike would go.
They were now running after us. I just enjoyed the ride while Riley was panting like a dog.
"Hurry up Riles they're gaining on us!" I lied and silently giggled as she sped up and started heading through the trees and towards town. 10 minutes passed and we still hadn't made it to town.
Was she going the right direction? My hair flew around me as we past a blur of trees and almost fell as she hit a root.
"Be careful." I told her. I watched as her face formed into a scowl. "Look whose driving this thing? Me or you? Me. So hush up and enjoy the ride." She panted all in one breath. I on the other hand was enjoying this ride.
Looking back, I saw that they were getting closer, about a half a football field away.
"Layla. Switch places with me." Riley's voice was sounded tired. "Alright on three." I agreed. "One.... Two..."
Riley quickly jumped off the bike as I sat on the seat then in an instant she was riding on the back of the pegs, evening her breaths.
"Where'd Connor go? It's only Skipper behind us now?" Riley said and I turned around.
Indeed, Connor had disappeared.
"Look in front of you!!" I turned to see us heading straight for a tree. I jerked to the right.
"Houston, we're going down." I let out a yelp as we crashed, the bike landing on me and Riley landing on the bike.
"Remind me to never let you drive me anywhere again." Riley sat up and helped me up while I glared at her playfully.
"Hello there, mate." I heard Connor say. "Trying to run away from me so soon?"
Skipper had just made his way over here. "We've been trying to catch you guys?" His quiet, nervous voice, came out breathy.
"Well you see what happened was...." I started an excuse but Riley interrupted.
"We- I mean she as in Layla, as in it was her idea. We were goi-"
