September 9th
It was now Friday afternoon and as soon as class ended she got on the road towards Charleston. The trip itself takes about 3 hours and she had already drove for 2 and a half of them.
She called her mother and let her know that she was 30 minutes away and she mentioned that Nassir had came home. He had also brought his girlfriend that no one in the family could stand. Keyarii automatically knew it would be a long weekend. The closer she got to home the more excited she became. Her father had built their home with saved earnings during his time in the NBA and it was something that he prided on keeping in the family.
He always told his children, "No matter what don't sell my damn house and don't let nobody take it either."
To him the house certified his accomplishments and it was a place he could raise his family. Charleston also provided a change from the Philadelphia life he and his wife had.
Keyarii arrived to her childhood home. She could already spot her brother's red camaro in the driveway. Keyarii parked next to his and grabbed her belongings before getting out of the car and using her key to enter the house.
"Momma I'm hea." Her mom came rushing out of the kitchen and embraced her in a warm hug.(Picture her in her younger days)
"Get your brother and his whore before I make a fool of her."
"Momma I just got here don't start please."
"Fine but only because you asked nicely, well for now."
"What am I gonna do with you?" Keyarii shook her head at her mother's antics.
"Bring home a fine young man."
"For who? Me or you?" She raised her eyebrow at me with a smirk.
"I'm telling daddy when I go see him tomorrow."
"Tell him but he'll flip in his grave at the thought of his little girl having a boyfriend."
"Daddy betta stay still when I get one."
"Mhm, Nassir get down here and come greet your sister." Nassir appeared from upstairs and he was a looking thinner than usual.
"Little sister, always trying to be like me. This was my weekend with momma." He pulled her into a hug and her face reached just under his chest.
"Hi Nas."
"Nassir take your sister's things to her room and both of you join me in the kitchen." Nassir nodded and Keyarii followed her mom into the kitchen.
"Whatcha making for dinner?"
"I don't know I was waiting til you get here but I honestly don't feel like cooking. Ya know the last time he brought that girl home she told me the food I cook is for the poor. Like she doesn't come from the slums, hmm just because I have money don't mean I'm going to cook rich white food. My mother ain't even have enough to feed us sometimes and she wants to talk about cooking like she knows anything of the sort..," Keyarii listened to her mother ramble on. One thing you do not do is insult Naomi Rashad-Sinclair's cooking. It was without a doubt their mother could throw down in the kitchen. She always put her all into whatever she made because it reminded her of the times her and her siblings had nothing. Naomi came out of the slums of Philly, but she was not going to change her ways for no amount of money. She never forgot where she came from.
And after she retired a few years ago she opened a restaurant, Sinclair's.
"Momma why do you stress her so much? It's not good for you."
"Because I want what's best for my son and something ain't right about that girl, I can feel it."
"Momma everything will work itself out, now I feel like ordering from chef Kendric's."
"I'll order the food go and ask that girl what she wants." Keyarii nodded and met Nassir on the staircase, "Mommy's about order from Kendric's so gon tell her what you want."
"Alright let me gon head before she orders everything spicy." She laughed and proceeded to his room where she knew his girlfriend would be. She knocked once on the door before entering.
"Oh my god you scared me." Keyarii felt you only get scared if you was doin wrong. Or maybe it was because she didn't trust Taylor.
"Mhm my mom is ordering from Kendric's would you like something?"
"Don't he got all that seafood and stuff?"
"He has more than seafood."
"Oh well I don't want nothing, I'll find something else."
Keyarii walked out of the room and back into the kitchen. "She don't want nothing Momma."
"Figures with her. Nassir what she gon eat?"
"Ion kno I'll go get her something she recently went vegan."
"She could've—you know what it's fine, gon head." Nas returned upstairs and Keyarii stayed in the kitchen with her mom.
"I am not going to do it, so help me Jesus."
"Good, now momma you got any of Daddy's old interviews and tapes?"
"In his man cave. Why?"
"A friend of mine asked for advice and I figured I'd let him borrow some old interviews and allat stuff."
"Hmm he's just a friend?"
"Yes momma he's just a friend, I don't have the time for boys."
"Honey you have time you just don't want your brothers to be upset with you. They cannot dictate your life and they cannot stop you from becoming a woman. Sammy can't keep you away from boys and Nas can't continue to stay logged into your social—. Skip that but you cannot be afraid that they'll be mad with you, you'll never live if you do that. They're protective but they are not your parents or owners. Waiting on them for a say so you will miss out on life honey."
"Nassir hacks my social media?"
"Who said that?"
"You almost did."
"I could've sworn I was telling you not to miss out on life and to find a husband," she raised her eyebrow at her daughter.
"Momma I'm not scared I just want somebody to be good enough to bring home so I'm in no rush. And I haven't had sex because there hasn't been anybody who would be worthy of that part of me. I'm not scared of Sammy and Nas."
"Well then I'll leave it alone."
"Thank you and besides momma I've just never had vaginal sex, only oral."
" Keyarii Sinclair."
"Ma'am?"
"Don't get too comfortable. I'm not one of your lil friends."
"Gurl, I don't have friends fa'real and you know we been besties since I was born."
"I'm still your momma."
"And my rich best friend."
"No that was your daddy. He was my rich bestie too," the ladies laughed. They really and truly missed him.
