Chapter two
I stared out the window for what it seemed like forever, but I did not want to sleep for I did not want to dream. I had a feeling, a bad feeling that my dream was going to overtake the world I live in. That the dream I woke from almost every night was going to fade deep into the reality that we lived in. I decided I could not sleep, and I was restless and left to walk. I had no place in general I wanted to go, but I needed to clear my head. My thoughts and my dreams were merging in a way that I could no longer tell what a dream was and what was standing real right in front of me.
"Legacy what are you doing walking around at this time of night?" asked Kaden.
"I could ask you the same thing." I said with laughter in my voice.
"Really I wanted to come checks on you, I am worried and so is Cleo." Kaden announced.
I didn't get the chance to respond I like Kaden heard the noises coming from the woods. I looked confused and that's the moment the first fire strikes hit a home and the flames started burning. In a quick second my dream was in front of me, as real as it could ever have been. Our warriors ran to the edge of our village to fight what they could not see at the moment. The darkness receding in the flicker of our homes burning, leaving the fire warriors standing and attacking. You could make out flashes of flames and see the fear in our people. The water people my people are going to fight and survive because that is our only choice.
As I watch a couple elders rush to defend our people you could only make out the flashes of flames and the coolness of the power of water creating a steam fog that is masking the whole village. As I ran to help those who were already down and injured with Kaden at my side. I watched as the houses in my vision were burning and the sadness in my heart was growing. As I walked toward an injured warrior, I found myself face to face with a fire warrior. He called his power and created a fire ball. I panic and through my hands up and a burst of ice and frost skidded along the ground and froze the man standing in front of me. I looked over at Kaden who was just as surprised at the power I just used to save our lives.
"We got to find Cleo and we need to run." Kaden yelled to me.
The fire was consuming the only home I have ever known. As he finished his words, bursts of fire hit around us. I raised my hands towards the home that were in flames and the ice climbed the ground and sizzled as it hit the flames and the smoke became thicker as the ice and water grew around the flames smothering them and putting them out. Kaden grabbed my shoulder.
"We can't save the houses or the village, we got to go Legacy." Kaden yelled.
We started running toward where Cleo called home in hopes of finding her and running from the nightmare that was created in flames. There were fire, water, air, and earth elementals in a battle that no one in our world seen before. The steam and smoke fog made it hard to see but every once in a while, you could make out two people in battle or distance lights of power.
We ran through the fire the water and the chaos that was around us. We ran and dodged the strikes of fire and lighting. This was not just an attack this was an extermination. They were not here to take prisoners but to take lives. We could see Cleo house and it was not in flames, and my heart was hoping we would find her hiding with her family. Kaden ran ahead of me and rushed into the house. As I slowly followed and got to the doorway. I could see her with her mom, dad and brother, they were all together and they were all singed and you could see the wounds that they could never survive. Kaden was holding Cleo hand crying, I walked up to him and put my hand on his shoulder and bowed my head. In our culture bowing your head to the dead was giving them the respect they deserved.
