"Kacey stop playing over your food and eat it already" Lauren my aunt said as I sat at the table playing over my barbecue chicken that my aunt had just finished making about 10 minutes ago

She had reached out to me and kaila about a week ago and wanted us to come over for dinner and here we are
"I don't want to be rude but I don't eat barbecue" I said looking up at her as she nodded
She was my mom's half sister who we had never met but it had to be for a reason moms didn't want us to be around any of her side of the family for what reason? I didn't know
"well what about you kaila do you eat barbecue?" she asked as kaila nodded her head
She ate anything if you wanted to be honest
Shaking my head I watched as the both of them began to communicate with one another
Looking over at Emmanuel he just sat their ignoring everyone while he ate his food
He was her son he was 14 younger than me and kaila and then she had a daughter who was 21 who was visiting from college
"Well kaila , kacey I wanted to bring you all here to let you know that you are loved and you do have family , you guys are welcome here anytime" she smiled as I nodded my head
"Why now tho?" I asked as she shifted in her seat
"Now isn't the time to discuss that"
It was gonna take a while before I became comfortable with them but I did want to know my family
Me and kaila needed people other than ourselves
"So do we have a grandma?" Kaila smiled as Lauren nodded
"Yes my mom joy, next Sunday the family is gathering at her house if y'all wanna join y'all are more than welcome"
"I'd like that I'm sure we will be there" kaila smiled looking over at me as I nodded
"Alright well I'm gonna get up out of here it was nice meeting y'all, and Emmanuel one I get my game how bout me and you play together?" I asked as he nodded his head
"Alright Lauren see you" kaila said hugging her before leaving the house
Getting in the car kaila phone rung she turned the volume down quickly to stop it from ringing
"Who that?" I asked being nosy
"Nobody" she said keeping it short turning up the radio only for me to turn it back down
"Yo why you being weird you could've answered it you know I don't care if you speaking to Jessie" I said looking over at her
"It wasn't Jessie it was Brooklyn" she said shocking me
I didn't even know her and Brooklyn still spoke to one another since she stop speaking to me
"Oh I ain't know y'all was speaking" I said glancing over at her as she rolled her eyes
Sliding right on her phone she answered it shutting me up
"Hey brook" she said looking at her screen

"I'm in the car on the way home, why wassup?" She asked
"I was wondering if you wanted to go to the spa with me?" B said as I turned the corner listening to every word of their conversation
"Yeah we about 5 minutes away from the house , you'll meet me there?"
"Yeah" she said
"Hm y'all have fun" I spoke stoping at the red light looking over at kaila who was already looking at me
"Yeah I'm pretty sure we will since Brooklyn's always fun"
"What's that suppose to mean?" I asked looking up at the light seeing that it was still red
"Nothing just let it go" she said sighing leaning against the window as I began driving
"Nah say what you gotta say"
Turning her body towards me she leaned against the door
"It's just that you always tell me to follow my heart and don't let nothing get in the way of that but your doing the complete opposite and I don't get why"
"Don't repeat nothing I'm about to say" I warned her side eyeing her as I drove
"I'm not ready yet , getting into a relationship is more than just being with each other , it comes with big responsibilities, sacrifices, hardships and as well as happiness I gotta make sure that i know what I'm getting myself into , I'm still dealing with shit from our past kai, I can't bring that baggage with me and complicate her life ight?, shit I'm not into b the way she's into me I love her as a friend"
"Dang I thought I hung up" she said making me roll my eyes
She did that shit on purpose I could've sworn they conversation ending minutes ago
"B you heard that?" I asked pulling into the driveway grabbing kaila phone
"Yeah I heard every single bit of it and it's okay I'm accepting that now" she smirked
"Yeah but I'd rather talk to you alone" I spoke as she agreed before hanging up
Pulling into the driveway of the house I got out along with kaila
"Before you go anywhere with Brook you needa clean your bathroom and your room I'll do the rest of the house" i said unlocking the door walking in
"Ew when did you become someone's dad" she laughed going up to her room putting her phone down before coming back downstairs going into the kitchen
Hearing the doorbell ring I knew it was Brooklyn
Preparing myself I took a deep breath before opening it
"Wassup" I spoke embracing her into a hug
"Wassup yourself" she smiled walking in as I shut the door behind her
"Look B I wanna apologize for how I treated you, I was raised to treat people how I wanna be treated. I was raised to have love for everyone and to always be there for someone no matter if they would do the same for me or if they did me dirty. I have a big heart and a good soul the way I came off about things was wrong I should've been straight up with you like you always was with me. You are my best friend B nothing more and nothing less"
"I understand kace , Some people especially men dont know how to properly express their emotions so their first instinct is to run away instead of addressing how they feel so I get it. but with me you don't have to be afraid to admit it or let me know what's going on, I'm sorry for trying to push feelings on you for me I understand now that you don't feel the same way and I accept that" she smiled
"So I can finally have my best friend back for good now? No weird shit?"
