"Loki, God damn it, stop moving my suit!"
"But it's just so much fun to watch you wander all over the apartment looking for it!"
"Yeah, until I realize that you took it and start throwing pillows at you!"
"Wait, don't-!"
But the pillow had already left your hand, and it hit the wall. It had passed right through him. His eyes fell right along with your mood. "....you're not even here..?"
"...no, I'm sorry.... I promise I will be soon, but I had something to take care of this morning... are you angry with me?"
"No, just kind of upset. I wish you would have told me. Now where is my suit?"
"Mmm... I think I'd like to watch you look for it for just a bit longer," he says, a mischievous grin rising to his face.
"You'll tell me or I'll magic-proof this room and lock the doors and windows." Was that a little harsh? Maybe. But you were a little upset. He should know better than to just ditch in the mornings and think that an illusion was an okay replacement.
"Yes, sir." He rolls his eyes playfully and shows you where he'd hidden your suit- up in the vent where you literally never would have looked. You gave him a glare and went to the bathroom to get dressed.
You'd been officially together for almost eight months, and ordinarily you'd dress in the room with him. But, again, you weren't pleased with his behavior. After this long, you couldn't think of anything that was so important that he'd leave without telling you. He usually woke you so you knew he was leaving for a minute.
When you came back into the main part of the apartment, his apparition had vanished, and even though you knew the Loki you'd seen a few minutes before was a fake, you still ached for the illusion to return. Seeing his smile, hearing his laugh, those were your favorite parts of your morning.
But he wasn't there. He had something more important to do. And he didn't even tell you until after he'd left. And that made your heart sick.

You sat and milled about in your room for about an hour, a small part of you begging for Loki to send another illusion to comfort you. But it never came, and you grew tired of being lazy, so you got up to leave your apartment in the compound... and found a note taped to your door.
How did you miss that? Perhaps it hadn't been there the whole time. You were sure you would have seen it. You carefully removed the small, folded piece of paper, and opened it to find Loki's delicate handwriting.
'Good morning, my little dove. I'm sorry I wasn't there with you this morning, but, you see, I was planning a surprise for you!
It seems you've forgotten that it's your birthday today! But I didn't, and I have a few things for you. But I couldn't just give them to you- that wouldn't be any fun! So you have to find them.
Each of these notes has a clue, and when you find a present, you'll find a note. Here's your first clue.
Can you remember where we had our first kiss?~'
You paused and smiled a little. Of course you did. On the roof, of all places. You gently tucked the first note into your pocket and went to the elevator. Except the elevator had music... and it was the song he had dedicated to you a few weeks ago. As stupid and cliche as you knew it was, you still loved the song because of him.
((A/N: This can seriously be any love song, but I personally imagine it being Perfect by Ed Sheeran because I'm soft and gay 😂))
"I know you can hear me... I know you're watching, and Stark is probably helping. You two are ridiculous. But you know what, I'm gonna go along with this, because I love you, Loki."
You smiled as the elevator doors opened and you stepped onto the roof. Sure enough, there was a bag of Hershey's Kisses (he knew you were a sucker for chocolates) and another note. You sat down and opened your bag of candy, then the note. You unwrapped and ate a couple of the sweets as you read.
'I'll bet you're eating those chocolates while you read this. That's fine. That's why I got them for you.
Here's your next clue, dove:
Where did we first tell everyone that we were together?'
You rolled your eyes. This was too easy, but it seemed like it was going to be a workout. "I gotta go back downstairs?? Loki, you're killing me." You got up and stepped back into the elevator, sighing softly as you descended back to the main living room.
But then you remembered, not everyone was there. He meant the med bay. You'd been wounded in a fight, and Loki had lost it. And everyone was there to see it. What the heck kind of present could he have left there??
You walked in and looked around, spotting the note and the box sitting on the exact gurney from that day. You went over, and.... it was a box of Avengers themed Band-Aids. "Oh my God, you absolute dork." You shook your head and stuck the box in your open bag of candy so it was easier to carry and opened the third note.
'These are for when you get hurt and I'm not there to patch you up myself.
Last one, I swear:
I know you know where I am right now.'
That you did. You sighed and went to get in the elevator again. You made it up to where Stark kept all his fancy security stuff, but stopped short as you walked in, almost tripping.
The lights were dimmed, the curtains drawn. There were candles everywhere, giving the space a soft yellow glow. There were red and white rose petals scattered all over the floor, and while Tony was nowhere to be seen, Loki stood in the center of the room, slightly flushed, but smiling.
He was nervous, but happy to see you. You set down your candy bag and started towards him. "...Loki...?" What the hell is going on?
"Hello, Dove.... have you liked your presents?"
"Well yeah, but.... what's.... all this?"
He took a breath and visibly swallowed. "Your last gift." He stepped closer and took your hands in his, becoming very serious. "((Y/N)), I've loved you for far longer than we've been together, and I feel kind of silly for never saying anything. You mean the whole Nine Realms to me, and I would give anything to keep you safe and by my side forever..."
You didn't really understand where this was going, but you kept quiet and listened.
"My darling, I want nothing more than to be with you, so..." He very nervously knelt and then it all clicked for you. You felt tears sting your eyes as he brought the box out from his pocket and revealed a beautiful wedding band.
You didn't even let him ask before you nearly shrieked yes and threw your arms around him, sobbing against his shoulder and squeezing him tightly. "I love you so much..."
"I love you, too, Dove. I always will."

A/N tiiiiime~! So if you couldn't tell, I try to avoid using the readers name insert as much as possible because I hate writing it. Idk why. It just bothers me. Makes me feel like a bad writer. I'd just slap my own name there, but then it's not you that Loki is with, it's me 😂
So yeah, lmk how you feel about that. If you guys all think it's fine, I'll put it in more, I just feel like people see and and go "eww"
