10. Annabeth

When Percy disappeared on Friday we spent the rest of the day searching, with no leads besides the cut camera footage. It showed someone, we couldn't tell who, clubbing Percy over the head then it cut to black. Obviously the person who did this knew what they were doing.
Despite Percy and the other kids going missing I did move in with my dad as we planned.
The house was fortunately not all the way across town from the Cave and it was only a few blocks away from Barbara's house.
Unfortunately when I moved back there my nightmares returned. Either about Luke, or Percy, or Kronos or something. Or about the League of Assassins. Those ones usually woke me up and I'd end up in the kitchen or falling asleep on the couch.
"Good morning Annabeth"
"Hi Dad" I muttered running my hands through my tangled hair.
I had slept on the couch again after I couldn't sleep last night.
"Don't you have school?" He asked absentmindedly pouring coffee
"It's Saturday" I reminded him
"Oh yeah" he said I knew he didn't really hear me.
"Is it alright if I um...help Barbara..paint her kitchen" I lied
"What" he asked turning his head "yeah that's fine"
"Thanks" I said
He didn't respond. I sighed and walked to my room and changed into a T-shirt and jeans. I grabbed a sweatshirt from my closet and when I did a small crumpled paper fell out of the pocket. I picked it up and opened it.
A phone number was written there. It was Dinah Lance's number. The one Babs had given me last week.
I grabbed the flip phone I carried now (I found it gave less of a signal to monsters and only used it when I needed to) I frowned and opened it before typing the number in and hesitating.
"Hey this is Dinah. I'm busy right now but I can-"
I closed it and sighed before grabbing my book bag and gloves and heading out the door.

"So any leads?" I asked flipping to the backside of my math homework.
"Actually yeah" she said "well kinda"
"What is it?" I asked perking up
"Well it's literally the only thing all of them have in common." She said "they're all athletes or honors students. Half and half there have been eight abductions. Four have been Athletes: Steph, Caleb, Grace, and Percy. The others are all honors students: Markus, Max, Makenzie, and Kaylee."
"So who would be after Athletes and Honors students?" I asked "I don't see that helps us. Do they have any coaches or teachers in common?"
"Nope" she answered
I finished the equation I was on and started on the next.
"Do you need help" she asked
"Not really" I answered finishing the problem and putting my paper away.
"Cass should be getting here soon" Babs said "then we can actually get-"
"That's it!" I said "Cass, Shiva, of course!"
"What?" Barbara said
"I know who took them" I said "or who payed someone to take them."
"Who..." It seemed to dawn on her "the League Of Assassins"

"I mean it makes sense" I said "they trained Cass from birth to be the ultimate weapon but that failed"
Cass frowned
"For them" I added "then they took Jason after he died. When I was..."
"Annabeth" Barbara said "what did they do?"
"You don't need to know" I said
They made me kill someone...and for a second they made me think it was okay...
"If it would help-"
"It won't. We just need to save them but this doesn't seem like the league" I said
"I agree" Cass said quietly
"So you two would agree we figure out who took them before the League can get the kids" Barbara said
We nodded
"We should start with any big dock shipments. Like with a unit they could hide people in" I said "we should monitor until we find them"
"I agree" Babs said "I'll also keep tabs on the bus and train stations"
"I just hope Percy is okay"
"He can handle him self" Barbara reassured "usually"
"What if" Cass said "they left Gotham?"
"What?"
"It's been three months. Maybe they took Percy and left" she said
I frowned that was a possibility but if it's true then we were probably to late. Talia Al Ghul would probably kill Percy on sight either that or torture him.
"For now we have to hope they haven't left." Barbara said "and if they have we'll find out and go after them"
I looked at Cass and Barbara. Just three girls:one in a wheelchair against probably the most highly trained group of fighters in the world.
This is gonna be fun.
"Oh before I forget" Babs said as if reading my mind "I've called in some help. They should both be here by tonight. And I'm making this an official Birds Of Prey mission so Bruce can't take it over."
"Maybe he could help" Cass said
"Maybe" she answered "but the last time me saw Talia things didn't go too well"
What did she mean by that?
"And if he finds out the Assassins have Percy he'll flip" she said "and blame anyone he can"
He'd blame me
"So who are our reinforcements?" I asked
"You'll find out when they get here" she said
"This is gonna be fun" Cass said

We were waiting in the snow when the bus finally appeared. It was about five in the evening and Cass and I had spent the day at Barbara's or on the lookout for any sign of the missing kids.
The bus puffed to a stop in front of us and a few people slowly came off. The. Two came together both had blonde hair and were tall and athletic. One wore a sweatshirt with the Gotham high logo and the other was wearing a winter coat.
"Dinah and Artemis" Babs said "glad you two found each other"
"Wait Artemis you quit, retired I thought?" I asked
"That's still a work in progress" she smiled "besides I hope maybe I can...find someone if I help you"
"Where's Wally?" Cass asked
"Back home" she answered "but don't tell him. He thinks I'm here visiting not on a mission"
"Hopefully we can find them quickly" Babs said "right now let's get out of the snow and find somewhere to talk"

We ended up in a small cafe I'm downtown. I sat sipping hot chocolate not really tuning into what anyone else was saying. I thought about last month when I was taken by Luke.
Percy had traveled across the country to find me nearly dying multiple times. He sacrificed so much. And now that there was the prospect of living without him. I was scared I realized.
If you're out there Seaweed brain I'm gonna save you I swear on the river of Styx.
Far off thunder rumbled as snow continued falling.
