My mouth was open as wide as my eyes as I stared at my friends. They were flying home right now? I had talked to Michael three days ago and he still had planned to be gone for over a week.
"Oh." Was all I could manage. I was in a state of shock; I had known that Michael would be home eventually and that's what I'd been preparing myself for. That eventually. Marissa and Alex were excited and they had reason to be; they had no issues with Luke or Ashton. Their relationships or whatever they chose to call them were in pristine condition. I had told myself I was done with Michael and that was that. He would be in my life for Sadie and even as my friend, but we would be no more. But I hadn't had enough time to get used to that.
I wasn't ready to see him.
"They should be here in like, four hours. Michael wanted to surprise you, I think, but we figured we should tell you. Alex and I could imagine him showing up at your door and you having a panic attack, so we thought..." Ris trailed off. I nodded and sighed.
"I get it. How long are they back for? They have more to do on this tour, don't they?" Alex shrugged."Luke didn't say. I think these might've been their last three radio shows. He told me they all had big news though." Ris nodded, grinning.
"Ashton said the same thing. I could hear Michael yelling in the background about how excited he was and the first thing he was gonna do when he landed was get Panda Express to celebrate." I couldn't stop myself from giggling at that; Michael loved Panda Express. It was his go-to fast food.
"We told them to come here when they landed." Ris told me quietly. She looked up at me, curiosity and worry overtaking her dark brown eyes. "Are you going to be okay, being around him? I know you were really upset that night Calum answered the phone. Ashton said Mikey's been worried because of how distant you've been. He still doesn't know that you knew he was with a girl that night, though. Or like, any night." I shrugged.
"I don't know. I'm going to shower."
I hid in my room for the most part, waiting for the boys to arrive. When I finally heard a knock on my door, goosebumps rose all over my body. Before I even had the chance to get off of my bed or make my way towards the door, Michael was running into my room and tackling me back onto the bed. He hugged me close to him and kissed my forehead. Butterflies flew around in my stomach and for a second, I forgot about everything. I forgot about the fact that he'd hooked up with god knows how many girls on tour, or that we'd been fighting before he left. I hugged him back and it all felt right. But then he pulled away and the first thing I noticed was the hickey just above his collarbone. When he noticed me staring, he looked down to see what it was that caught my eye. His entire face went red.
"Veronica." He started. I just shook my head in response.
"It's not a big deal, Michael. We aren't together." He nodded and sat down beside me, pulling my hand in his. I shifted awkwardly but didn't pull away; I couldn't bring myself to. There was something different in the air; something had changed while he'd been gone. I looked over at him, taking in his faded red hair and his baggy, low cut sweater that I loved. He wore his standard black skinny jeans and black leather combat boots. I smiled softly at the fact that he'd run right in here, not even taking his boots off.
"I have huge fucking news, Veronica." He announced, grinning from cheek to cheek. I nodded and smiled, waiting for him to continue. He looked so excited he could explode.
"We got signed." I couldn't help it; my jaw dropped. I mean, it didn't surprise me that they got signed, they were amazing, but I hadn't been aware that there were even labels that were looking, let alone ready to offer them a deal.
