Darcy's POV
I wake up the next morning after a sleepless night. I wake up multiple times thinking that I was about to die. It is terrifying. I go into the bathroom already knowing what to expect. I see that there are dark circles under my eyes and I am slightly paler than usual. I quickly take a bath and go outside.
I see that hazel is already up and is getting ready. Zoë is still in bed. I'm not sure but I think she has fine arts later. Me and hazel are going to our first law lecture.
As soon as hazel gets ready, we rush out of the dorm. I glance at my watch. Its 8.45.. Thursday.. wait.. Thursday!?! Ugh! The day after tomorrow I have to go to 'the' party.
Shit.
I have nothing to wear...
"I need to go shopping " I suddenly say to hazel stopping in the way.
"Yeah. I need to go too" she says." Let's go after lunch?"
"Yeah. I'll text zoë." I say.
We reach the classroom within five minutes. The class is not what I expected it to be. It is really huge. Like really huge. It is basically a penthouse. And the most amazing part is that they have actual debate squares. Like the ones which you have in courts. There are witness chairs and audience chairs too. It's almost like a court. Damn, I think they take law seriously here.
"Looks like we will be having debate." Hazel says her eyes searching for someone. I stare at her with raised eyebrows. "With the seniors." She says now looking directly behind me.
I see Henry and Davis entering through the door. Okay now seriously??Henry waves at me and they head straight towards us. Like Henry wasn't enough..
"Hey Darcy what a coincidence. We meet again!" He seems kinda... scared? Uncomfortable? He nervously chuckles. As if Davis acting weird around me wasn't enough. I slightly roll me eyes and instantly become embrassed. I mentally scold myself. Hazel tries to make a move.
"How about you partner with Davis and I go with Henry?" She says expectantly looking at me. I smile and nod. Davis and Henry steal a glance at each other. Henry hesitates initially but then nods and smiles at me. I take places with Davis. Hazel and Henry come and sit beside us and the professor enters the room. The professor does not look how I expected him to. I expected some old guy with grey hair and bad temper to come but in but instead I see a guy who must be in his late thirties. He being a professor I probably shouldn't think this but he does look hot. I can literary see his muscles through his shirt which is folded till his elbows. And oh my, the veins on his forearm are phenomenal. Literary the whole class gasps but I see no surprise on Davis and Henry's face. Instead, they just snap into attention. The professor catches their eye and nods at them and only then they seem to relax. Bizarre.
" OK students. My name is Mr. Rodger and I have called you together to decide who will be selected in the debate council. Now who will be in the first debate?" He asks and my hand shoots up. Davis looks at Henry as if surprised but I can see that he is positively impressed.
"Well then, we have our first candidate." He says, gesturing me and towards the square. Davis and I take places and then the professor tells us the topic of our debate.
"So the topic of today's debate is Feminism." He says and I snort. Piece of cake.
"So Ms. McField. That's your name if I'm not mistaken? I'd like you to speak "
"Yes sir."
"so... Feminism is quite a trending topic of discussion.Latin American feminism, which in this entry includes Caribbean feminism, is rooted in the social and political context defined by colonialism, the enslavement of African peoples, and the marginalization of Native peoples. Latin American feminism focuses on the critical work that women have undertaken in reaction to the forces that created this context. At present, the context is dominated by neoliberal economic policies that, in the environment of globalization, have disproportionally impacted the most vulnerable segments of society. Against this political backdrop, Latin American feminism is grounded in the material lives of people, often women, as it explores the tensions engendered by the confluence of histories that generate relationships among gender, citizenship, race/ethnicity, sexuality, class, community, and religion.
Latin American feminism broadly encompasses multiple positions, many of which are in tension with each other. As a result, many refer to Latin American 'feminisms' in the plural. The diversity of feminisms is owed to the various regions and their histories which demanded social, cultural, governmental, and organizational transformations in their own capaticies. Hence, the present discussion of the general concept of Latin American feminism methodologically necessitates historical sensitivity to apprehend the intimate relationship between the development of different ideas and the heterogeneous political conditions that give rise to them."
"Wow. That was Completely phenomenal. Darcy you are in the debate council. Who would like go next?" Mr.Roger says. Feeling satisfied and with a stupid grin on my face I go and sit down next to Davis. I catch him looking at me. I sheepishly grim at him.
"That was really impressive, darcy." He says.
"Thanks" I say turning to him. Still grinning.
"What are you doing tonight?" He asks me. Wait... ? Doesn't he have a girlfriend?
"Why you ask?" I ask him casually. Looking down at my at my United fingers.
When I look over at him. I see him looking puzzled and then he breaks out in fists of laughter. Geez, that's a beautiful sound..
What? Oh. What am I even thinking?
"Yeah... Wait.. I'm not asking you out on a date." He manages to say between a couple of laughs. See, people I can be hilarious.
He stops laughing when he sees me looking seriously at him.
"There's a party tomorrow instead of Saturday..." he says now looking serious. Okay.. now see that's a funny face..
"Oh? Yeah. K." I say as I turn my attention back to the professor.
As the lecture gets over Mr. Roger gets up let's us that further selections will be continued in the next lecture. Not much people got selected.
After all, we finish packing up and Henry and Davis come over to us. The most weird part is that Davis is nothing like him. The way he looks at me in the eye with the same feeling makes me blush visibly.. i inhale sharply.. i can literally fell my raged breathing.. I look away from him. I think Henry noticed that. Shit. Davis extends his hand and I take it. His hand is warm.
"Well done Darcy. To be honest, I did not think of you as smart. No offense." He smirks.
"Right back at you Davis. To be honest I think of you as complete jerk and a douche. No offense. And i still do think that" I say returning his smirk with the same intensity. Then we all laugh and Davis gives my hand a little squeeze before letting go. My smile disintegrates and I look at him, my cheeks crimson. He gives me a sideways smile and winks at me. My whole body stands up in attention and my subconscious swoons. I grin slightly.
"Oh. I almost forgot. The party planned for Saturday night is prepped to today. It's okay right?" Henry says looking at me and hazel.
"Ok that's fine. We will come anyways. Right Dar?" Hazel asks me looking expectant. I hesitate a bit and then nod. And they all grin at me.
"Davis. Henry. I want you here right now." Comes a voice that definitely belongs to Mr.Roger. Davis and Henry both cringe and then take their leaves.
"Bye Dar. See you at the party then." Davis says, winking at me. I roll my eyes at him. I hear him laughing while going.
Did he just call me Dar? Hmm what a complete playboy.
