⚡️⚡️⚡️"Giants?" We all exclaimed in disbelief. "Come again?" Ron asked in bewilderment. "You mean, actual giants? Like giants giants?" I asked.
"I understand tha' you all must be confused. But yes, giants I'm afraid," Hagrid sighed. "Why would Dumbledore send you to talk to the giants?" Harry asked, brushing his arm against mine as he leaned forward. "You-Know-Who's been sending Death Eaters ta try 'n' get the giants on his side. When Dumbledore heard abou' i' he decided ta send me 'n' Madame Maxine ta try and get them on our side. Being half-giant meself, I was the best bet," Hagrid explained, stroking Fang on the head.
"How did it go?" I inquired. "We convinced abou' six or seven at first, bu' then the new leader, Golgomath, raided the caves that they were in. The ones who survived didn't want ta be on our side anymore," Hagrid sighed, looking down.
"So that's it then. All the giants are on His side?" Ron asked, looking sickly pale. "'Fraid so," Hagrid whispered sadly. "But what of your mother Hagrid?" Hermione suddenly asked. "Did you at least get to meet her?"
"Died. Dead for years now," he said, smiling sadly at her. "Hang on a minute," Harry said suddenly. "How did you even get in this state? And I heard that Madame Maxine returned to Beauxbatons Academy months ago, how are you only getting back now?"
Hagrid opened his mouth to answer but was interrupted by a knock at the door. I cursed quickly as I dropped to the floor. Harry pulled me up and dragged me into the corner as Hermione and Ron followed, pulling out his Invisibility Cloak from his pocket.
A knock sounded at the door again, more urgent this time. "With you in a moment!" Hagrid called, looking back at us as we all squished together and Harry threw the cloak over us. We watched as Hagrid threw the slab of meat at Fang, before brushing himself off and opening the door to reveal Umbridge standing at the entrance.
"Good evening," she smiled, brushing past Hagrid without an invitation. "As you should already know, I'm Professor. Umbridge, Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and Hogwarts High Inquisitor. Rubeus Hagrid, I presume?" Umbridge stated, rather than asked, as she pulled out a clipboard and began scribbling down notes.
Hagrid looked taken aback for a second before quickly composing himself. "That is I," he replied gruffly. I resisted the urge to face palm. "And where have you been these past few months may I ask?" she continued. "Oh you know, just away for me health. Bitta fresh air," Hagrid chuckled nervously.
"Yes, I'm sure as groundskeeper fresh air is hard to come by," she countered, fixing her gaze on him. Hagrid shuffled awkwardly as he kept his mouth shut. "I heard voices, who were you talking to?" she suddenly asked again. "Jus' me, talkin' ta Fang over 'ere," Fang lifted his head as he heard his name, Umbridge giving him the once over.
"She knows," Harry faintly whispered. "Right well, I'm sure you're aware that I'll be informing the Minister of your late arrival. You'd better know too, as High Inquisitor of the school it is my duty to inspect the staff here and...weed out, if you will, the unsatisfactory candidates, Mr. Hagrid," she continued, walking towards the door.
