Harry and I strolled along the corridors, as we chatted lightly about day to day things. Our debate on whether pumpkin pasties were better than chocolate frogs was interrupted by a commotion of students running past us towards the courtyard.

"What do you think is going on there?" Harry asked me, looking quizzically down the hall. I opened my mouth to answer, before a wail of desperation cut me off. "I don't know, but it can't be good," I rushed, as we took off in a run after the other students.

When we arrived, we quickly found Ron and Hermione towards the front of the enormous crowd of students. There, in the centre of the courtyard, was Professor Trelawney, two suitcases strewn at her feet. One was bulging, obviously from being packed haphazardly, while the other had popped open due to the crystal ball rammed into it.

Umbridge was standing in front of her, a look of satisfaction on her face. "What's she doing?" I asked Hermione. "She's fired Trelawney, and now she's kicking her out of the school. It's outrageous!" Hermione whispered, an annoyed look on her face.

"B-but you can't d-do this! Hogwarts is m-my home!" Trelawney begged, tears streaming down her face. "Oh, but I'm afraid I can, dear," Umbridge began. "You see, you simply aren't fit to continue to work here at Hogwarts. The ministry only wants the best for the future of wizardkind. Wouldn't you agree?"

Trelawney simply stood there stuttering, unable to formulate a sentence of defence. "Pity you couldn't foresee this day coming," Umbridge shrugged, as she turned to leave. Just then, McGonagall rushed out from the crowd and made her way to Trelawney, pulling her into a comforting hug.

"I don't know what's gotten into you Dolores, but you simply can't dismiss teachers from the school like this! Casting them out onto the streets! Have you no heart?" McGonagall asked, anger surging through her eyes.

"Well-"

Before Umbridge could finish her sentence, a rush of whispers surged through the crowd as Dumbledore stepped into the courtyard, and glided towards the women. "Minerva, if you escort Sybill back to her chambers?" Dumbledore started, accepting the hug Professor Trelawney gave him.

"Dumbledore, you've returned," Umbridge griped. "It appears that I have Delores. And I am still Headmaster of this school, so while you may have the authority to relieve my teachers from work, you do not however, have the power to dismiss them from the school grounds. I'm afraid that privilege lies with me," Dumbledore stated, earning a low hum of approval from the crowd.

A few beats of silence passed, as Umbridge started at Dumbledore. "For now, perhaps," she smiled, before turning and walking away.

"Don't you all have homework to do!" Dumbledore shouted at us, causing people to start dispersing. Harry, however, started to push through the crowds, fighting his way towards Dumbledore, who had briskly started to walk away. "Harry, wait!" I cried, as I shoved my way through the students. Hermione and Ron followed suit, whispers of rushed apologies leaving Hermione's mouth as they pushed past people.
