Things start clicking. Time starts ticking.
We walk down the street to where we parked the cars, hidden from the Ascott's sight.
"Avalon, can you drop me off at Shadow River Manor?" I say as I'm about to hop into the passenger side.
I feel a big hand wrap around my wrist and pull me back. "Where are you going?" Sylv says, obviously having overheard me.
"I need to talk to Adrian," I say.
Avalon hops into the drivers seat and shuts the door – giving us the privacy I wish we didn't need.
"Of course," Sylv huffs, "go run back to him."
"Don't do that," I snap back and glare at him. "Don't act jealous."
He drops my wrist. "Fine," he shakes his head exasperatedly. "Do whatever the f*ck you want."
"I thought you said you weren't going to speak to me unless it concerned Paige?" I say. "I think you're opinion about Adrian is irrelevant."
"Fine," he repeats and turns to leave.
I grab his arms and stop him, his back still towards me. "Sylv," I sigh.
He looks back at me, "Just don't f*ck up – because I'm not going to be there to wipe your tears this time."
He brushes me off and walks to his car without turning back. That's a f*cking low blow. He was there for me after Scott – he really thinks Adrian is another Scott? Does he really think I'm that desperate to continuously go for guys that will use and abuse me? And he really thinks he's just a rebound to me? F*cking idiot.
This isn't about me and Sylv anyways. If I'm right about Joseph Ascott... what's going on here is much bigger than I thought. The secrets of Cedar Creek keep getting thicker.
Sylv doesn't even know what he's talking about.
Argh, he f*cking infuriates me.
I step into the passenger seat. "Let's go."
.
.
.
The drive to the manor gives me enough time to really figure out what Paige's dad being Joe being Joseph Wittle being the Joseph Wittle really means. It gives me enough time to mute my incessant obsession of Sylv.
I knock on Adrian's door so loudly that I'm scared I'm going to break my wrist.
"One second!" I hear him yell from behind it.
Finally, he appears at the doorway and I'm huffing from running all the way up his driveway from where Avalon dropped me off at the front.
"Adrian – Adrian," I can't breathe.
"Come inside – gosh you're unfit."
"No time... for jokes..."
"What is it?"
He sits me down on the plush red couch as I huff and puff. "So much to tell you," I gasp for air.
He leaves the room for a moment and then returns with a glass of water. "Rose, you need to calm down."
I take deep breaths and drink the water quickly. After I've finally regained myself, I think about how to tell him everything. "Adrian, it's history repeating."
"What do you mean?"
"The murders – the Wittles. The Ascott's. They're connected."
His eyes widen, the caramel in them glowing like gold orbs under the warm light.
