SEIS:
A LEAP OF FAITH
The world around her had faded behind a thick curtain as her heart beat with the thrill of the game she followed unfold with unblinking eyes. Already gone warm, a can of soda remained untouched on the glass table as her body crouched in a subconscious attempt to get closer to the court she was unable to reach. Her fingers twitched with anticipation and sheer determination, her lids refused to provide comfort to her dry eyes in fear she would miss that play that would make the game flicker towards a different destination.
Kaiya had been waiting for that moment, for that unlucky pass or step forward that would break their fight and lead her team to an anxious victory. Fully invested in what was happening on the screen, miles away from where she sat; she was gone and didn't hear Satsuki complain about the dirty dishes she had forgotten to wash after lunch.
She didn't noticed Kuroko sitting next to her and stealing her soda, putting a straw through the hole and calmly sipping as his blue eyes watched her like she was a play he needed to fully analyse.
"Your face will freeze like that if you don't blink, Kaiya."
His voice seemed to fall to deaf ears, but her brain processed him words and she found herself blinking. It felt like a voice at the back of her head, some invisible force interrupted by loud slurping.
Her hands clenched into fists as the ball was stolen by a player from the opposite team, but the counterattack was stopped by her favourite player as he rushed after him and his fingertips pushed the orange ball out of his grasp. As a timeout was given, Kaiya breathed out and leaned back.
"Do you want a drink?"
Screeching, Kaiya jerked away and slipped in her panic.
"Or perhaps a cushion?" Kuroko considered aloud as her eyes blazed in annoyance.
With a huff, the woman stood from the floor and opened her mouth to express her frustration towards the basketball player but was interrupted by a knock on the front door. Glancing at the screen fleetingly, she read the time and calculated she had one minute before the game resumed.
"Stay there," she ordered Kuroko while walking off in the direction of the door. "I don't want you giving a heart attack to... a kid?" She frowned at the small child waiting at the other side, looking at her with big eyes.
Kuroko made sure to clear his throat as he approached the strange situation and looked down at the smiling kid. Glancing at Kaiya from the corner of his eye, he tilted his head. "I hope you're not about to find out you have a son, Kaiya. A lot of people could get hurt in the process."
Her eyebrow twitched in irritation, before her elbow forced him out of the way and back into the living room. Hearing Satsuki's voice call for him as she finally stepped out of the bathroom, she gave a sigh of relief.
"So, what do you want?" Her voice came out harsher than anticipated, but she blamed the blue-haired man that had just disappeared from sight.
His small hand pulled something from his pocket and she took it. She frowned, confused. A note?
"Who gave this to you?"
But the kid only smiled and scurried away, jogging down the stairs and disappeared from sight just like Kuroko had. Looking down at the note, Kaiya turned it over and narrowed her eyes upon the letter written on the back.
