I stand in the kitchen door while Liam makes himself comfortable on the wooden chair. Was this really happening? I was still in shock that Sophie had decided to leave us alone like this.
Suddenly Liam was turned around in his seat and looking at me as if I should move. It was just then that I remembered what I was to be doing: making him breakfast.
I made my was nervously toward the kitchen counter, looking down as I walk. I felt Liam's eyes on my body as I passed him. I dare turn around to meet his gaze, and instead I focus on something I am an expert at: making a cup of tea.
I take a cup from the drying board and switch on the kettle. Just as I do this, I hear the shower kick into action in the upstairs bathroom. My hatred for Sophie had hit me anew all over again. If there was ever a good time to have a shower, was now really it?
I turned to Liam in an attempt to make a little conversation and to try and prove to him that I wasn't nervous about this situation. His arms where behind his head in a relaxed stance, and he was sitting back against the chair with his legs stretched out.
"one sugar?"
"one sugar"
We both spoke at the same time.
I smiled and he laughed as I turned back to the counter.
The sugar was in the highest cupboard in the kitchen, and for being the shortest girl in the village, I struggled to reach it at the best of times. Even in my apartment in the city, Sophie had to get me a little foot stool for ease of reach. Thank God she had brought it with her when she came over here.
As I stood onto the stool, my head became blurry. Today's and last night's events were starting to catch up with me. Plus their was a slim chance that last night's alcohol intake probably wasn't helping matters either.
I tried to steady myself, but it was no use, and as I reached up my arm to grasp the sugar, I began to lose my balance.
My legs buckled beneath me as I felt the stool slide. I lost my stance completely and I was bound for the floor, face down.
