A Damn Good Speech

Peter's P.O.V.

I don't think I'm ready for this. Not at all. But I have two sorta good reasons not to say no to this. One, I don't want to let Wade down. He tried so hard to make something happen for me to have closure, I feel kinda bad about it. And two, I just want to see Tony again. I want to see him move, talk, maybe even smile. I want to see Tony again.

Wade's arm tightens slightly around my waist when we walk through the red door of Tony's room, flashing me a smile when Pep closes the door behind us.

"Peter, do you really want to do this?"

I nod, looking Pep straight in the eye. I can do this. Sure. I can do this. I think.

"Here"

"Oh thanks, Betty" I smile at the blonde, who got a chair for me. I'm pretty happy about that, at least 99% sure I would collapse if it were to much for me. Wade sits down first, pulling me onto his lap, his arms around my waist. MJ, Ned and Betty sit down in a corner of the room, and Pep looks at me one more time before asking JARVIS if he could play the recording.

My breath hitches when Tony appears right in front of me. I study his face, trying to burn every little detail into my brain, so I'll never forget. He smiles, and starts talking.

Everybody wants a happy ending, right? But it doesn't always roll that way. Maybe this time. I'm hoping if you play this back... it's in celebration. I hope families are reunited. I hope we get it back, in somewhat like a normal version of the planet has been restored, if there ever was such a thing. God, what a world. Universe now. If you told me 10 years ago that we weren't alone, let alone you know to this extent... I mean, I wouldn't have been surprised. But come on, you know. That epic forces of darkness and light that have come into play. And for better or worse, that's the reality Morgan's going to find a way to grow up in. So I found a private area to record a little greeting in case of an untimely death on my part. Not that death at any time is ever timely. This time travel thing that we are going to pull off tomorrow... it's got me scratching my head about the survivability of all this. But then again that's the hero gig. Part of the journey is the end. What am I tripping for? Everything is going to work out exactly the way it's supposed to. I love you 3000.

Smiling one last time, Tony disappears, leaving me alone again. I notice the tears are running down my cheeks when Pepper kneels in front of me and slowly wipes them away.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm not sure"

Pep nods, flashing Wade a look. He seems to understand what she means, cause he turns me around, so I'm straddling him. I bury my face into his neck, crying until I can't anymore. He just rubs circles on my back, calming me down.

"Baby, can you look at me for a second?" He whispers, close to my ear "The next part of the tour are the labs, but I don't think you need to see those"

I laugh lightly, shaking my head. I know how those look and what happens there, I spent enough time in those.

"Okay, do you want to go upstairs?"

"Upstairs?" I turn around to look at Pepper, who is still standing behind me. She nods, explaining that I don't have to come on the rest of the tour, at least not until lunch.

"Can I really go upstairs then?"

"Yeah. Steve's up there, so you wouldn't be alone either. You can bring Ned and MJ if you'd like" Pepper smiles apologetically in Betty's direction, telling her that she does need to go on the tour. Betty laughs, saying she doesn't mind.

Will you come and get me then? When I need to get back on the tour?"

"Of course I will"

"Okay"

"I need to get back to your group, you can use the door behind you to get to the private elevator. I'll see you later Peter" She kisses me on my forehead, smiles, and then leaves with Betty. Leaving us alone in the room.

"Are you ready Peter?"

"Yeah"

I stand up, and walk to the door Pepper said we could use. MJ opens it when she reaches it just before I do, and we all walk through, into the elevator on the end of the hallway. My anxiety rises a little when the doors close, not knowing who else is upstairs. I know Steve is, but I've already seen him, and he'll probably not be alone up there.

The doors open when we reach the 87th floor, and I get greeted with looks from at least 3 different directions. It's Nat who breaks the silence.

"Peter?"
