The chapter is italicized because it's a flash back.

"Remington! You're awake!" Emerson yells crying harder than he ever had in his life. He hugs Remington and holds onto him tightly.

Remington is taken aback by Emerson's actions. He couldn't recognize his surroundings and only saw the white walls straight ahead of him.

"Yeah... I am..." Remington sighs trying to recall why he was there in the first place, "what happened?"

Before Emerson could answer the door opened and Emerson practically jumped out of excitement. Sebastian walks in along with their mom. He couldn't wait to tell them Remington woke.

"He's awake!" Emerson yells running to the door.

"Really, I thought they said it would be a while before he would." Sebastian says.

"I told you he would! It's a miracle really!" Emerson says excited.

Sebastian laughs ruffling Emerson's hair. He looks behind Emerson to see Remington sitting on the hospital bed. His face falls immediately when he realizes how bad the injuries are.

"I-I still don't know what happened." Remington sighs glancing at Emerson who was supposed to provide him with an answer.

Emerson laughs and puts his hands up in defense. "I wasn't even told don't ask me."

Remington shakes his head and looks at his mom. She just says one thing. "Look at your arms."

When he looked he realized what happened. That day, he went too far, he knew that the moment he saw it. Stephanie asked Sebastian to take Emerson out of the room while she talked to Remington for a bit. He nodded and agreed to.

"What do you think they are talking about?" Emerson asks, oblivious to what had actually happened. Of course looking back in it he knew very well what occurred.

"Nothing you need to worry about," Sebastian says.

"How come we can't hear?" He asks.

"If mom doesn't want us knowing we shouldn't know, when the time comes we'll figure it out."

"Is it related to girls or something." Emerson laughs.

Sebastian shakes his head a small laugh escaping him, "far from it."

"So you know what's going on?"

"Look, how about we go and get something to eat, the cafeteria is open still."

"Yeah... sounds good." Emerson sighs.

Meanwhile... Their mom, Stephanie, has been talking with Remington... Remington had just turned 14 a couple of months ago, she didn't think she would have to ask her son not to give up. She knew he was getting bad but not this bad...

Why? There was no answer for that, at least not until now. When she asked, he surprisingly opened up more than he ever has to her.

"The kids at school started being rude and soon enough it turned into a constant thing. The adults saw and they'd ignore it, I got tired of waking up everyday just for someone to make me feel less and less human." Remington sighs looking away, "I-I'm sorry, it sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?"

Tears stream down Remingtons face as he spoke. He didn't want to know her response. He was scared she'd say he's overreacting but she didn't. Stephanie puts a hand on her sons face wiping his tears away.

"It doesn't sound ridiculous at all sweetie. I'm sorry I didn't notice before, I could have helped you." She says.

"I should have told you, mom. I just didn't want you to worry, especially since dad left recently and everything. You seemed stressed..."

"You don't need to worry about me. I love you and if there's something wrong you need to tell someone weather it's me or Sebastian, just make sure you talk to someone."

Remington nods and looks down. Tears stream down his face and quiet sobs escaped him. He pulled his knees to his chest his body shaking. There was a knock on the door and Stephanie sighs moving a strand of hair away from Remingtons face.

"I'll be right back honey. Just hold on alright." She says softly. She steps away from the bed and opens the door. A nurse looked at her and asked if Remington has woken up yet.

She nods and looks behind her. Remington was crying, the nurse saw and sighed.

"I'm sorry, he's just going through a lot right now." Stephanie says.

"I'll come back in ten minutes, I understand." The nurse says. She knew the situation and didn't want to feel like she's intruding or anything.

Remington looked up at his mom and wiped his eyes hoping it would all stop. The nurse smiled at Remington before walking away. He noticed but didn't have the confidence or happiness to smile back.

Stephanie sighs and closes the door turning back to her son. She walks towards the bed pulling him into a hug. He hugs back tightly.

"I'm sorry, mom." Remington says quietly.

"It's okay," She says holding him close.

"I love you,"

"I love you too. Please baby, try not to do anything like this again."

"I'll try..."
