"So this is what it's come to?" He asked in frustration. "The little kitten is out and you can't even protect her enough, Robin! I'm surprised that this is what it actually came to!"
"Don't you dare insult me!" Robin growled defensively.
"Insult you? She was just about to be stabbed! What would have happened if I weren't here? What message would you have taken to him, Huh?" He looked down on the young duo. "This isn't a game. I have a message for him. Tell him, I'm is back in town."
"Does that mean you're not going back to the cave with us?" Lynx questioned.
"Is that really a question?" He asked. Before they could respond, he switched his gun to grapple mode and fired. The line pulled him up to a taller building. As he disappeared in the night, the duo slowly prepared to head back to base.
The Batcave
Robin and Lynx entered the cave slowly. As they made their way to the Batcomputer where their father sat, they took off their masks."How was the acquisition of the drive?" Bruce wondered.
"It was fine!" Damian frowned, handing the drive taken from the leader of the thugs.
"Did something happen out there that I should know about?"
Both Helena and Damian remained silent.
He sternly looked both of the kids in the eyes. "Well, is there?!"
Damian maintained his frown as Helena's face soften. A tear escaped her eye as she looked at her father.
"Jason showed up." She admitted.
"And he left you a message saying that he's back in town," Damian added.
"That so." He scowled. "So that's what happened. Are you okay, Helena?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." She folded her arms and turned her back on him. "Just exhausted from the patrol. No need to get worried."
"Damian?"
"Dad, we are okay. It's a school night so I'm going and get some rest."
"Alright." He voiced as he walked to the glass case. "I'm going to go out. Helena, make sure your mother knows that I'm out."
"Okay." She nodded.
As Bruce suited up, the siblings took off their armor and made their way to the elevator. When they got up to the manor, Damian branched off and went straight to the bathroom. Helena on the other hand walked somberly into the television room to talk to her mother.
"Hey, kitten." Selina greeted. "What's wrong, dear? Did something happen on the job tonight?"
"Damian was occupied and I was pinned down." Her voice cracked. "I would've been stabbed but Jason showed up and took my captor down. When he looked at me, I could see the disappointment. He doesn't think I'm ready to be out there and he scolded Damian for not protecting me enough. I'm no child and I can defend myself, but, he can't see that!"
Selina enveloped her child, drying the tears in her shirt. "Baby, I think he just doesn't want to see you get hurt."
"He doesn't care about what I want." She croaked. "He doesn't even believe in me."
Selina caressed her back. "I'm sure he does. Jason loves you more than anything and would do anything to keep you safe. He just has a funny way of expressing his love for others. I'm sure it was tough love."
A sweet gentle melody escaped the lips of the girl's mother. The tune was accompanied by a loving back rub. Eventually, the combination nullified the girl's sorrow.
