Keegan's P.O.V
"You were a good one. I honestly hope that you and your African queen get things back on track." The officer says.
"Thank you and I hope so too."
The gate opens and I spare him a last glance before leaving the prison and finding a smiling Margaret.
I look around her and find no sign of Letta.
"Where's Letta?" Is the first thing I say.
Margaret's smile wavers but she continues to smile none the less.
"She...she couldn't make it..." Her smile then dropped. My heart dropped to the pit of my stomach. I furrow my eyebrows with a frown.
"Was the little princess being troublesome?" I look for a possible excuse for her.
"Something like that." She frowns too. "But that's beside the point. Let's get you home and to your family." She smiles again and I smile at the thought of my family.
Family.
That's my new favorite word.
Margaret drives us to a new house I'd never seen.
It's at the middleclass neighborhood but it's still beautiful. When Margaret turns of the engine, my heart jumps to my throat in excitement and realization.
I'm finally going to see my daughter for the first time.
And not to mention my beautiful wife.I find myself smiling like a maniac and head out of the car and rush into the house.
Margaret follows in later and I head to the kitchen to find Letta by the counter chopping vegetables.
I head towards her and wrap my arms around her waist.
She halts her action and turns around. She has a stoic expression."Hi honey." I say with a smile as I lean in to peck her lips but she faces the side making me kiss her cheek instead.
My heart drops to the pit of my stomach.
She's no happy to see me."Excuse me, Keegan. I need to go and check on Lolo." She says with an exhausted sigh.
Maybe she's exhausted. I haven't been around to know how tiring a child can be.
"May I come with?" I find myself asking.
I want to see her so bad. All I've gotten were a few pictures but that's not enough. It's not the same as seeing her in motion. Hearing her cry or laugh. Touching her most probably soft skin and telling her that you'll never leave again.
"She's your daughter, Keegan. I can't say no." She walks out of the kitchen and under the stairs.
I catch up to her and follow closely behind her.
She opens the first door on the right hand side of the hall. The room is colorful. Filled with mainly blue and yellow.
I follow into the room to find the girl I've seen in the pictures just sitting up from her slumber. She rubs her eyes with a small chubby hands as she yawns.
Beautiful.
Letta walks towards her and holds her in her arms.
Piece of art.
The view of Letta holding our child in her arms is like a piece of art worth too much to be afforded.
"Afternoon, sweet cakes." Letta looks at Lolo with a smile.
"Mommy, who is dat?" Lolo points at me and Letta looks up at me.
"Well Lolo, that is..." She's pauses for a moment. "Daddy." She looks up at me and gives me a small smile.
"Daddy? You said daddy was on wacation." She objects and Letta puts her down.
"He was but he missed you so much he came back." She pokes Lolo's nose and gestures her towards me.
"Now Lolo, be nice and give your daddy a big hug." She says with a huge grin and Lolo does as instructed and hugs my legs.
I pick her up and smile at my daughter.
"Hi there Lolo." I say with a grin.
Holding Lolo in my arms feels like a dream I've had since his mother told me about her pregnancy.
"Hi." She shyly say with her cute little voice.
She really is a piece of art. Her skin isn't as dark as her mother's but it's a smooth caramel. She looks more like her mother but has my brown-yellow almost golden eyes.
"Lolo, let's get you to aunt Margaret so she can bathe you while I talk to daddy." Letta says and Lolo urges herself to Letta.
"I'll be back." Letta says and heads out of the room with Lolo.
This is amazing.
I sigh in glee.
I might have messed up but right now I'm at my happiest.
I have my wife and child near me and that's more than enough to make me euphoric.Letta soon walks in the room again amd she's not smiling.
Since I've arrived, I've only seen her smile at Lolo.
She hasn't spared me a genuine smile yet but she must be tired, so I don't really mind."We need to talk." She says and she sounds quite much tired and drained.
She raises her hand and that's when I notice the manila folder in her hand.
I now frown.I really do hope it's not what I think it is.
"I want a divorce."
