Those eyes. Those icy blue eyes. They haunt me each and every other night. And never in my mind would I have thought that they'd be staring into mine once again after the pain they'd caused me nine years ago.
I'm speechless. I want to say something, everything but all the worlds are at the tip of my tongue. "Letta, who is it?" Margaret's voice comes from the kitchen.
I can barely answer her just like I can barely breathe at this exact moment.
I then hear footsteps but I can't bother to look who it is, can't bare to say anything as all the memories hit me like a tsunami wave, unexpected and painful as hell, leaving me breathless and drowning in the wave.
"Letta? People still call you by that?" He raises an eyebrow but I can't say anything.
"And who might you be?" Keegan's voice booms from beside me. "I was about to ask the same question." Keanu arrogantly answered.
"It's him..." My words came out as a whisper but Keegan heard them. I didn't think he'd understand but somehow he did.
Those two words were enough for Keegan to put two and two together. So he grabbed the gun from under the foyer table and pointed it in between Keanu's eyes.
Keanu didn't flinch though. He looked at the gun and then looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "Leave." My voice finally gained the power it just lost.
"Oh come, Lethabile, we're still having our reunion. The least you can do is invite me in." He mocks.
Keegan clicked the clock. "Yeah reunion my ass, leave before I blow your head off." Keegan's tone was lethal that even I shivered in fear.
Keanu glared at Keegan for a moment ad then laughed.
His laughing?
"I don't think so." He said. "Look around you. You shoot, everyone in this neighborhood could be a witness and you," he pokes Keegan's chest, "will go right back to jail my friend." He finishes and I furrow my eyebrows.
"How do you..." I start but he cuts me off. "Know? The same way I found you. Do tell me, Lethabile, how's Bonolo doing? Is she growing well?" He folds his arms in a mocking manner.
"Jail doesn't seem like a problem with the way you cry to die." Keegan sneers. "I'm done here. Keegan, let's go." I tug at Keegan's arm and shut the door right in Keanu's face.
Keegan and I head to the kitchen to find Margaret holding Lolo. "We're leaving. Now." I say as I go and fetch our bags.
"Who was it?" Margaret questions as we head to the garage. "It was him. I can't even bare to say his name out loud." I say as I throw the bags in the trunk.
"Him, as in, him?" She questions and I nod. She straps Bonolo in the carseat while Keegan helps me load the luggage in the trunk.
"Keegan wanted to shoot him but we'd have witnesses." I said as I closed up the trunk and sat myself in the driver's seat.
Keegan sat in the passenger and Margaret in the back with Lolo. We buckle up and I start up the car. "Everyone buckled up?" I question as I wait for the garage door to open up.
Once it's open, I start to reverse but halt abruptly when Keanu's standing in my way. "Move or I will run you over and trust me, I won't hesitate." I warn.
He moves to stand by my open window. "Where are you running off to this time?" He smirks and I clench my teeth. "Fancy car for such a middleclass neighborhood, don't you think?" My blood boils with every word he utters.
"Move before I run your foot over." I lethally warn. "See, Lethabile, your too fragile and caring. If you really meant that you would've already..." He screams in agony as I reverse the car out, running over his foot like I warned.
"That Lethabile is dead." I tell him as he clutches his foot in pain and drive away without another word.
"How'd he find you?" Margaret asks as we drive on our way to the airport. "I honestly don't know. Someone told him everything involving me, like Keegan and Bonolo." I stop at a red light.
"I think he's working with these people who want Keegan dead." I tell her and resume driving when the light turns green.
"Want me dead? Who? Is that why you wanted a divorce?" Keegan questions and I sigh heavily.
"Yes and no." I say. "Keegan, whoever these people are, they're after you and they wanted you defenseless and that required having me divorce you. I too felt like getting a divorce because had you not lied, I don't think we'd be in this situation." I explain.
I was tired, and we'd barely made it through the morning. If I could just get to South Africa and find my mom and whoever Rethabile is, things would be a whole lot easier.
After a while we finally make it to the airport. We unload our luggage while Margaret takes Bonolo for me. We head inside and check out our bookings and shortly board the plane after.
I strap Bonolo next to me and Margaret and Keegan sit in front of me.
"Why are we flying publically?" Keegan questions as the air hostess tells us to buckle our seats."Because, Keegan, if my mother had an emergent escape, she probably took the jet." I explain. "Margaret can explain to you." I said as I triple checked Bonolo's seatbelt.
I double check mine and after a while they tell us the plane is about to take off and it soon does.
I look out the window to see the airport getting smaller and smaller as we fly higher into the clouds.
This is for the best.
