Warm... it's so warm. Turn the heat off, I'm seriously gonna overheat. And can someone turn the lights on? It's dark here... wait where is here? I-Is this heaven? Am I dead? I should be able to move then. I tried to move my arm, but to no avail, it didn't move. My eyes! That's right, I'm probably sleeping and need to wake up!
Unlike trying to move my arm, I was able to open my eyes with ease. I fluttered my eyes open, closing them for a second as a blinding light flashed in my face. I let out a groan as I opened my eyes and adjusted to the bright light. I struggled to sit up, still feeling warm. I glanced around, scanning my surroundings tiredly.
I was on a bed, a dark blue bed. The room was a royal blue color. The room was pretty empty and small, so it must be a guest bedroom. A bedside table sat next to the bed with a brown lamp and a water bottle on top. There was a wardrobe across from the bed. The door to the left of the wardrobe, cracked open to let in light from the hallway.
I quickly realized I wasn't at my treehouse. W-where am I? What happ–oh yeah, right. I fell into that lake after I saw that person... this must be his house. I thought as I slumped back down, feeling too weak to do anything. I need to get back to my treehouse. Tch, the twenty dollars is probably useless now that it's soaked in water. I didn't even get to the McDonald's! Looks like I have a fever too... I won't be able to get to the tree house in this condition, how will I even gonna get back?
I sighed as I pull the covers higher, covering my mouth. I suddenly realized that I was no longer wearing my jacket or the clothes I'd originally put on. I was now wearing a grey sweater and blue sweatpants. Don't tell me... he changed me? Thanks for saving me from the river though, it's not like I'm being ungrateful... I hope he didn't see anything! At least I'm still wearing my inside shirt though and hopefully the same underwear.
I sighed even more but rolled to my side and closed my eyes. I tried to go back to sleep but couldn't, so I just stared at the white ceiling, daydreaming. I suddenly heard the cream of the door as it was opened.
"I see you're awake now. You gave me a mini heart attack when you fell in the ice. I had to get you out of your other clothes quickly so that you didn't get a fever, guess you still got one anyway. At least you aren't soaking wet anymore," a soft voice said. At the door, was the young man from earlier. Without the coat, I could see that he was wearing a blue turtleneck sweater and now had a grey pair of jeans on. He was skinny without the thick winter coat. He had a surgical mask on as he walked into the room and sat one the bed at my feet. He looked at me, eyes filled with worry.
He saw the look of confusion on my face before quickly realizing that I was looking back at my clothes then at him. "Ah, don't worry. A friend of mine came over to change your clothes. She's gonna be coming back with medication for your fever. Do you mind telling me how you feel?"
I stared at him for a second before hesitantly, sitting up slowly before saying,"I-I feel okay." My voice sounded hoarse and quiet and that's when I noticed the burning feeling in the back of my throat. I suddenly started coughing uncontrollably for a few seconds, pointing at the water bottle . The man grabbed the water bottle from the bedside table before giving it to me.
I nodded my thanks as I continued to cough, struggling to open the water bottle. I lifted the collar of my turtleneck to cough into it. Once I managed to stop coughing, I continued to struggle opening the bottle. I stared at it frustrated before looking at the man for help. He smiled softly to himself before grabbing the water bottle and opening it for him.
I smiled as I gulped half the bottle down. Suddenly I felt cooler and more refreshed. "W-Where am I?" I asked. Stupid questions since I'm pretty sure I know where I am, but hey, it doesn't hurt to ask.
"This is my house. I brought you here after I managed to get you out of the lake. It's just a ten minute walk from my backyard." He answered before placing a hand on my forehead. "Seems like your fever has gone down, I'll leave you to rest some more while I wait for my friend to come back."
He got up from the bed and started walking towards the door. "Wait!" I suddenly shouted, making him freeze before turning around. My throat started hurting again, most likely from just now. Wait, why did I do that? Now I have to say something or else I'll sound rude for wasting his time!
"Yes?" He answered worriedly as he walked back to the bed. "Is there anything you need?"
"Umm, w-why are you helping me?" I blurted out, startling him. My voice was still quiet, but it wasn't as hoarse anymore.
"Huh? Why wouldn't I help you?" He asked confused. "Any decent human would help a random child in need. Is there anything else you need?" Glad to know that there are still good people in the world. Sadly, not a lot of people would go out of their way to help a kid in need.
"I–uh, um I wanted to know your name? So that I could uh, at least so that I know who saves me." I managed to say, struggling to spit it out. I twirled my fingers around, looking at him sheepishly.
He smiled softly before saying,"Silly me, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Simon Matsuki, nice to meet you. What's you name?" He looked at me in the eye, his sparkling and full of kindness. I couldn't help but be filled with a sense of calmness and safety.
"I'm Lily Nguyen. Nice to meet you too." I said, this time making my voice sound soft. I smiled as he returned the smile. He got up and left the room, closing the door on the way out.
"Wait! P-Please don't close the door!" I yelled suddenly, as my eyes widened in horror. I gulped as I smiled, reassuring him that I'm fine. He stared at me weirdly but left it open as he left the room. I let out a sigh of relief, pushing back the memories that I'd hid in the back of my mind.
