"So um... I'm hungry. Can I get something to eat?" Lily asked.
"Of course! Follow me, I'll get something ready for you." I replied, walking towards the dining room.
I paused, turning back to see Lily slowly turning her body so they her legs were hanging off from the side of the bed. She carefully placed one foot in the ground before putting her other foot on the ground and getting up.
She hissed in pain before leaning onto the bed for support. Worried, I ran to her side.
"Are you okay? Where are you hurt?" I questioned as I scanned her over, looking for any obvious injuries.
"M-My ankle hurts really badly. I think I twisted it when I fell."
"Do you think you can walk? If not, I could carry you to the dining room."
"N-No! I'm fine. I'm used to having a twisted ankle. I'm really clumsy sometimes."
I simply nodded and helped her up. I held her hand, helping her walk to the dining room and letting her sit down. She looked around the dining room, scanning every little detail.
"So, do you have anything you wanted to eat? I could cook something for you?" I asked.
"Umm, before the whole falling-into-the-lake accident, I-I was hoping to get some McDonald's. I-Is that okay with you? You don't have to though... eggs and bread would be just fine too."
Seriously? McDonald's? Honestly, Wendy's is better but you do you. Considering what she went through earlier, I guess she kind of deserves something unhealthy to eat.
"It's fine, so what do you want from McDonald's? I can quickly drive there and come back with the food."
Her face lit up as I agreed to get her some food. She exclaimed excitedly,"Ooh! I want a strawberry smoothie, large fries, and a plain cheeseburger! So on the cheeseburger there is only the bread, the patty, and the cheese. That's it, no ketchup, no lettuce, no anything else! Oh and the strawberry smoothie is a large. Oh yeah, and a ten piece chicken nugget!"
"You sure are hungry, huh?" Who the hell orders a plain ole cheeseburger and a smoothie in the middle of winter?! I thought to myself as I looked at her questioningly.
"I mean, well yeah. I haven't eaten that much in the past few days. Wait, can I come with you? I want to eat some fries while in the car so that I don't have to wait to long for them."
"I guess so, but is you ankle okay?"
"Pft, like I said, I've twisted my ankle many times in the past. I barely feel it anymore, now let's go get some McDonald's!"
Once we returned home, Lily returned back to her quiet state. But this time, she didn't look as gloomy and looked like she was just too busy eating to talk. She quickly chomped in her burger and annihilated the fries. She eat her food quickly, as if she hadn't eaten real meal on days. She sipped on her smoothie, happily kicking her legs around.
"Want some? There's still some chicken nuggets." She asked, pushing the box towards me.
I smiled but shook my head. "No thanks. I ate earlier. I'm surprised someone as skinny as you is able to eat that much junk food in one sitting."
She shrugged. "Eh, I just have a very fast metabolism. No matter what, I can't really gain weight."
"So, I wanted to know what you were doing in the forests. It's pretty dangerous going in there alone even in winter. There's plenty of things that could hurts you." I asked suddenly. I've been thinking about it for a little while now. Just why were you in the forest, it makes no sense for a young teen to be there.
She suddenly stopped sipping from her smoothie. She stared at me in the eyes before liking down at her hands.
"I-I got lost. I was staying at my uncle's cabin and I wanted to get something to eat but no one was at home so I decided to go get some food by myself. I know, it was a pretty dumb thing to do, but I was getting really hungry and I just had these really bad cravings." She explained, not once looking up.
I stared at her warily, but quickly shrugged. She's lying. It's obvious from how she's not looking up. I wonder if I sho–no, I shouldn't. It's not my place to ask her that stuff, I should wait until she's comfortable enough to tell me herself.
"Don't you think your uncle is worried sick about you? You could tell me where you cabin is and I could walk you there if you want. I'm pretty sure your uncle would be glad to see you safe and sound." I suggested, pretending to believe her lie.
"Oh, um, I think it's a little late... how about I stay here with you? M-My uncle might be worried but we can leave early in the morning. And plus, you said it yourself that it's dangerous to be in the forest alone. It's gonna be even more dangerous at night."
"But what if your uncle called the cops to find you? That would be pretty annoying for them if you just came back home the next day perfectly fine. And plus, if you tell me where your staying, I might be able to find a shortcut there. I know these forests pretty well."
"N-no no, it's honestly fine! I would sometimes spend a night at my friends house so he probably thinks that I'm staying there! Please let me stay here for just the night! I'll pay you back, promise!" She yelled, jumping from her seat to look at me, begging me to let her stay.
Why am I even arguing with her? It's not like she'll even cause any problems here. And I really don't want to go into the forest so late, I guess it wouldn't hurt at all to let her stay.
I sighed,"Don't worry about it Lily. I'll let you stay here for the night. And you don't have to owe me anything."
