There was a man....
I couldn't see his face, but his body structure was towering.
Large muscles sculpted his figure.
His hair was a fiery blue.
He held a sword in his hands.
There was a word inscribed on the sword, but I couldn't make it out.
I've seen this man countless times. But only when I'm asleep.
The same dream occurs over and over again, like some broken record.
Was it a memory? I couldn't tell.
Footsteps echoed behind me, coming towards me.
Ah, right on schedule.
I turned around and saw another shadowed face man.
This one had blonde hair.
A cape billowed behind him, but I felt no wind.
He was somewhat buff like the other man, but more on the slender side, I think.
The two men glared at each other with such hatred, at least that's what it felt like as the atmosphere became sinister and menacing.
Wait what happened next again?
The two figures running at each other, with me in between them, reminded me.
I sighed and stayed still. It was no use moving.
I tried during previous times this happened, but I couldn't move my feet.
CLASH
*BRIIIIIIIING*
I groaned and slammed my alarm clock to turn it off. I groggily opened my eyes, blinking a few times as my vision was blurry.
"Good morning Vault 76! This is the Overseer!"
"Ah! The Overseer," I thought while sitting up, completely waking up to listen to her voice.
"I hope you all enjoyed the party last night. Even those who have... Overindulged..."
"Yep, sure did," I said to no one in particular, knowing fully well that I was one of those 'Overindulged'. Damn, that party was wild.
"...And overslept."
I quickly looked at my clock. "What the?!", I muttered. Sure enough, it was way into the afternoon. "Oh shit!!! Don't tell me-," I exclaimed while looking out the window.
"But it's time to get up and get out there."
Sure enough, the place was deserted. Fuck me...
I sighed and looked at the ceiling, replying, "Thanks for waiting for me, Overseer."
She didn't reply, not like this was a two-way intercom.
"We all have been locked away for a long time. We've waiting long enough. Today is Reclamation Day."
I went and brushed my unruly hair to make it look decent enough. As I did, I listened to the Overseer.
"It may be time to leave, but I'll never forget the day you all entered Vault 76. You come from every walk of life, every race, color, and creed. But you all share one very important trait. You are this country's best and brightest. But most importantly, you'll always be my family."
I started to tear up. "She sees us as family," I thought.
Smiling, I went and grabbed my Pip-Boy. I carefully placed it on my wrist. "Oh yeah," I said when I turned it on. This is gonna be fun!
I then headed out of my residential room and headed along the hallways of the Vault. After collecting everything that I need, including my C.A.M.P., or Construction Assembly Mobile Platform, I went to check in on the Overseer.
Once entering the room, I was surprised to find that she wasn't there. Only a holotape in her computer. I took the holotape and inserted it into my Pip-Boy, then pressed play.
"Overseer's log, or should I say, direct communication. Because whoever is listening to this had the moxy to try to find out where I've gone.
But I'm glad you did. Truth is, I need your help. I've been given a task, and... I've decided to break protocol and tell you what it is. Because If there's one thing I've learned in these past few years, it's that we need to rely on each other.
There were three active nuclear silos in Appalachia before the bombs fell. They blew up the world before. We can't let it happen again. So we've got to locate and secure all of the silos, or die trying. Hopefully the former. Hmph.
But it's been twenty-five years. I just don't know what we're going to find out there. Or where to start... My directive was to go to the nearest population center and assess the situation. I'll set up a C.A.M.P. on the way once I get my bearings. Find me there."
Once the holotape ended, I ejected it and put it in my pocket. I stood there for a moment, thinking to myself.
"The Overseer needs my help. These silos are definitely a threat. Thank god I found this holotape. If anyone else did... They could've betrayed the Overseer and..."
I stopped and shuddered. God I cannot even think about the consequences. I walked out of her office and headed to the Vault Door. An alarm went off as a warning that the door was opening. When the door opened, I walked along the catwalk towards the blinding light.
"Don't worry, Overseer...
I, JoJo, will help you on your mission."
