Percy was broken, and he knew it. The lonely demigod stared out over the lake.
Bittersweet memories of that second kiss, so full of hope and promise, washed over him. They all seemed so ironic and sad now.
Percy twisted, looking over the silent Camp Half-Blood.
No children were running around, no Stoll twins being chased for a prank. It was eerie, desolate.
Desolate, like his heart.
Why?
Because they were all dead.
Every single demigod, Greek or Roman. Dead.
Except him.
And it was all his fault. If he had been a bit faster, or a bit stronger, maybe they would have made it.
No - Percy - don't...
Flashback
A single drop of blood dripped from Percy's nose.
One drop.
That was all it took to wake Gaea.
The Earth Goddess rose from the ground. Her green, grassy hair shimmered as the primordial gave an evil grin.
"I am awake," she boomed. The goddess looked to her children, the giants.
"Mother," Porphyrion called. "Let us defeat these insolent demigods!"
Mother Earth waved her hand.
Suddenly, they were on the plain above Camp Half-Blood.
The Romans and Greeks stood below, fighting.
When we appeared, they looked up in horror. The Greeks had 'I told you so' looks on their faces. The Romans just looked confused and scared.
Suddenly, a team of pegasi swooped in with the Athena Parnenthos.
"Kill the graceus!" that scum, Octavian, yelled. "They are working with the giants!"
But Camp Jupiter was not swayed twice by Octavian's honeyed words.
The gods appeared in chariots. Poseidon appeared next to Percy as the world descended into fighting.
For a few minutes, things seemed to be going their way.
Percy and Poseidon slew Polybotes. The Greeks and Romans were slowly driving off the monsters.
The Hunters of Artemis and the Amazons had appeared and were aiding the demigods.
Then everything went wrong.
Thalia and Nico were stabbed in the back by Octavian.
Jason jumped in front of Piper to save her from Porphyrion's spear. It didn't matter anyways, the spear went through Jason's stomach and into Piper's heart.
Percy spotted a lifeless Frank with ashes scattered over his body.
Hazel fought, crying, by her fiance's body, but Percy watched in horror as an arrow from Orion cut her down.
Leo fell to Mimas, his father's bane, his last war cry, "For Calypso!" ringing in the air.
And Annabeth.
Annabeth was dueling Gaea herself, preventing the primordial from using her powers to entrap the demigods and gods.
As Percy slew Periboa, Annabeth glanced back at him. It was a fatal mistake.
