"mattia please!" kairi's heart broke at the thought of what was coming next. he thought mattia would feel the same way and he was foolish to really believe he would. his whole body was shutting down because the boy he loved didn't show the same love back.

a week prior

kairi had ran into mattia and jenna in the hallways of their school. he was surprised to find the two holding hands. mattia had constantly flirted with kairi and made him feel small. he was one of the few people that knew kai best. "uh, hi mattia." the small boy spoke.

"oh hey kai. you know jenna, right?"

"ya, we've got chem together." kairi gave the girl a small smile. "mattia can we talk for a second.." kairi paused, "alone."

jenna excused herself and kairi pulled mattia around a corner so no one else would be around. he began to feel his hands shake, was this the right move? what if he was being rude by telling mattia? although, mattia was always acting like they were a couple, how could he not feel the same way? he even knew kairi was gay.

"mattia, i like you." kairi whispered.

"what kai?"

"i like you." the boy spoke a little louder this time. mattias small smile turned into a frown. he didn't want to hurt his friend, but he was with jenna now. "kai, im dating jenna now." kairis heart sank.
"but you-"

"im sorry kai." mattia pulled the shorter boy into a hug and left. kairi tried with all of his strength not to slip right into little space and cry. he grabbed his bag from where he had set it on the floor before talking with mattia and quickly walked to his next class. one small tear leaving the sad boys face before he put on a smile and walked into the class room.

today

"he said go away." jenna blurted out.

"jenna can you go over there for a second." mattia spoke. jenna left, but kairi could still feel her stare from across the hall. "kairi don't talk to me anymore. you just can't."

"mattia you're my best friend. you said you'd-"

"always have your back, i know. but not after what you did. i can't look at you the same. you're disgusting."

mattia lied and it hurt him so bad. he loved kairi and he never realized how much he did until a week ago. but he liked jenna and jenna was homophobic so he had to be, right? it broke his heart to see kairi like this and a part of him didn't understand why he was even doing this. but anything for the perfect girl.

"ok," kairi's cheeks became wet, "bye mattia. i hope jenna treats you well." and with that kairi left.

he stopped at his locker to grab a few things, but he couldn't last the rest of the day in school. he called alejandro who he knew didn't have a class at the moment and instantly started bawling.

alejandro picked the small boy up from school. he already had a blanked and a stuffed animal in the back seat. "its gonna be okay kai. mattia will come around. i know he will."
