"how the fuck did we end up in pennsylvania." mattia laid his head on the steering wheel as they waited for the red light to turn green. "i don't, but my phones dead and my parents are going to kill me. im never gonna be able to leave the house again."

"technically, they don't know we're here." mattia turned to face kairi. "i guess.." the smaller boy looked down. "we just gotta find a place to stop so we can sleep and i can get my phone turned back on."

"so much for the mini road trip." mattia sigh before driving again. "are you mad at me?" kairi asked. mattia laughed, "why would i be mad at you?"

"it was my idea." the shorter boy frown, looking up at mattia. "ya, but who drove us here. of course i'm not mad. you worry to much kid, live a little." mattia nudged the boy with his free hand, earning a giggle from kairi.

"pennsylvania's cool." kairi spoke, looking out the window at the passing buildings. it was an old part of where ever they were. graffiti and abandoned buildings filled kairi's eyes. "it's like a bigger new jersey." mattia told him.

"ya, but different."

the two had finally reached a hotel after aimlessly driving around. mattia was a few miles away from running out of gas, but to their favor; a gas station was across the street. mattia used his emergency credit card for booking a room, knowing if his parents found out he'd be dead.

"it's nice," kairi lied walking into their room. he sat down on the small bed, "you could call it that. if you were blind and couldn't smell anything." mattia gave kairi a small smile. "it kinda smells like flowers." kairi spoke.

"ya and ass." mattia sat down next to the boy and plugged in kairi's phone with the off brand charger he'd bought from the gas station. "be positive." kairi pouted. "sorry," mattia sigh.

"we gotta sleep in our clothes." kairi frowned. mattia pulled the smaller boy close to him, "it'll be fun," mattia spoke, "it's like we're in a movie."

"i wish i was in a movie."

"let's go to bed." mattia got up, walking over to the window to close the curtains until a loud scream came from the other side of the wall. "what the fuck was that." kairi whispered, walking towards kairi. the scream was followed by loud bangs and crashes and kairi's eyes began to water. "i think you wished a little to hard on the in a movie part." mattia gave a dry laugh, earning a glare from kairi. "should we see if everything's ok?" the shorter boy asked, trying to hold back his tears.

"kai we don't know anyone here or what they're like. we aren't risking it."

"mattia that person needs help." kairi looked into his boyfriends eyes innocently. "fine." the taller boy curled his lips, walking towards the door. "just wait in here."

mattia took a deep breathe, almost knocking on the door when someone spoke. "don't even try." he turned to see a kid standing a few feet away. "they always fight."

"you know the people inside there?" mattia walked towards the younger kid. "it's my mom and her boyfriend. he hurts her, ya know? last time i tried calling the cops he hurt me." the kid pulled up his shirt to show off a bruised stomach. "we came here because he was supposed to make it up to us by what he's done. so much for that."

"how old are you?" mattia asked.

"thirteen."

"you're really mature for a thirteen year old. you wanna come in my room with me? my boyfriends in there to." mattia didn't want to leave the kid out in the hallway by himself. the boy shrugged, but followed mattia, "what's your name?"

"mattia, you?"

"antonio."

the two walked into mattia's room, "kairi this is antonio. the people next door are his parents."

"my mom and her boyfriend, actually. i'll never see him as my dad." the boy sat down next to kairi. he looked around, "so why are you guys here if you got no bags."

"we weren't supposed to end up here. we're from new jersey." kairi spoke.

"new jersey, really? and your parents just let you guys leave." antonio seemed for interested in what was coming next then mattia and kairi themselves. "they don't know we're here." mattia added to the conversation. "are you guys like running away?"

"no, we're going back home in the morning." kairi glanced towards mattia who shook his head. "can you take me?" antonio asked.

"take you?" kairi's breath was heavy.

"i'm tired of being scared."

"we can't take you. that's kidnapping on our part." mattia frowned. "but it was my idea."

"sorry kid."
