“It was the best thing you could do, Rosie, it really was.” Cane stated proudly, smiling at me from behind his desk, his beloved mug in his hands.

I smiled back, feeling proud of myself as well. It's not easy to stand up to anyone officer, especially when you're on death cue and everyone hates your guts, but I did and I don't regret it at all. The officers all supported me after all, which means I picked the right thing to do.

“Logan almost ripped my head off,” I laughed, earning a cackle from him. “I could see it in his eyes, he hides a psycho himself.” I joked, making him laugh even harder.

“No, Logan would never hurt you, it’s his job to protect you.” he shook his head, his smile still holding onto his lips. “So, heard you and Harry are getting quite close, is that true?” he changed the subject, leaning back in his seat comfortably.

“I hate spies.” I grumbled, rolling my eyes.

“I have to know everything, Rosie.” he defended coolly.

“No, you don't.”

“I'm afraid I do.” he scrunched his lips. “Trust me, hearing ten thousands of bullshit daily about what prisoners do isn't making me happy, either,” he grimaced, “But like it or not, I have to be in your business. You're the only prisoner I truly care about.” he muttered the last sentence, but I heard.

“You do?” I cocked a brow, still not fully believing him.

Truth is, he has helped me through a lot. He has stuck up more than I expected, he has fought with Logan multiple times about my rights in this prison and he is working on getting me out of the death row. It's clear he cares about me, I just don't understand why he cares so much. I'm not innocent, I deserve to rot in here, so why is he going against the law, to spare my life?

He nodded twice, his face serious. “Rosalia, believe it or not, I am very close to fully understanding the way your brain works. The way you think is something indescribable, you have confused me more times than I can count, you truly are something special. I believe I can save you.” his voice was soft and serious.

“I don't need saving.” I stated flatly, seeing his lips twitch. “I deserve to die.”

“You don't deserve to die.” he responded timidly, “You want to die.” he corrected and I pursed my lips, mutely agreeing with him.

We spoke through our eyes for a couple of moments as he tried to get answers from me. He's confused as to why would I want to die when there's a chance I'll get to leave this place and start over. But the level of difficulty I'm going to endure while I attempt to start over, isn't worth it.

“Rose, you're damaging yourself by giving up.” he started off slowly, giving me a stern look. “Let me help you.”

I sighed, frustrated that he can't just accept that I have accepted my life as it is and I actually don't give a fuck about the death penalty. Even if I leave this prison, Kayn’s puppets will come after me. I know they're all alerted and patient to get me and torture me. I won't be able to make it past two days on my own out there.

“What do you know about gangs, Cane?” I asked, furrowing my brows.

He pursed his lips, “Pretty much everything.”

Pretty pretty pretty.

“You don't know shit. You've never been stuck with a gang member, you don't know how it really is to be part of their sick actions.” I spat, him widening his eyes in shock at me.
